This is closest to Gorilla Ball since 1997

I know that 188(am i correct?) will never be touched but it sure is fun watching the 6/7 guys we have that can go yard at any time this season. This team is the closest thus far since 1997 to show glimpses of the feared "Gorilla Ball" plate approach. I remember in 97, 1 through 9 "ALL" had double digit nukes on the season.

Every position player that had an at-bat hit a HR that year.

When I think of "Gorilla Ball", I think about leading the country in home runs. We are tied for 18th in the country for home runs. Still, exciting stuff nonetheless.

Whats crazy is that we are mashing and we are still like 5th in the conference in HRs. Gorilla Ball is most definitely back!
I am not sure Gorilla ball can win you a CWS though. That park is big and the pitching is top notch.

If you compare the Box to other parks, it is definitely more pitcher friendly, especially in the colder months. I wouldn't be surprised if we average more homeruns per game in our road games in the SEC.

It's the thought that we can go yard at any time again. Fun to anticipate and it actually happens

We play in a bigger park than the rest of the SEC. We've played 7 games ended by run rule which is the most in the conference.
UF for instance has had 120 more AB's than us so far this season. Only 2 SEC teams have had less total AB's than us.

I think it is spelled Geauxrilla.
But yes, this team seems to be approaching a top five all time homer capable team.
16-1 heading into SEC play with:
11 wins by ten runs or more
7 run rule games (could have been four more had coaches agreed)
6 shutouts

We are 127 AB behind Florida due to 2 less games played and a shitload of 7 inning games.

Jay has also pulled most of the position starters around the 5th inning in over half of our games.

Caglianone from UF is really good. He also has 22 more AB's than Crews. shite they have 6 guys with more AB's than Crews and he leads the team.

I don’t know about the rest of the country but the new box is one of the least hitter friendly ballparks in the SEC.

I can agree with the 7 inning games causing a few less homeruns. But we are still tied for 17th in home runs per game.

And every single team ahead of us except for 2 have more AB's this season.

Didn't we lead the nation in homeruns going into conference play like 2 years ago?
Posted on 3/15/23 at 11:23 am to Thacian
South Carolina is on a crazy homerun pace so far. If they somehow could stay on this pace it puts them pretty close to the record.
No question the ball is a little juiced.

We are still tied for 17th in home runs per game because of the exact post you just replied to. LSU has had less at bats and played more 7 inning games that probably anybody in the country thus far. Idk why that is so hard to understand lol
Less at bats/innings played equals less HRs per game than other teams playing 9 innings

What I like is, we're hitting a decent number of homers, but the team is just very productive - lots of hits turn into runs. And it isn't "small ball", it's "all ball" -

Seriously, though, 195 runs on 539 at bats is production you can win almost every game with.

Well they've played 15 home games so far in their small park. And havent left the state of South Carolina which is wild.
