I remember when I taught Psychology, I learned that mantis shrimp could see 12 different colors, including UV. Humans see everything in three colors.

Some people see more colors than others. Some people have 4 distinct color perception channels instead of three. If you have parent who is color blind you may live in a more colorful world than others.
