Rory McIlroy admits 'LIV Golf has benefited every golfer'

Rory McIlroy has finally admitted what Greg Norman has long been declaring. “I'm not going to sit here and lie – the emergence of LIV has benefited everyone that plays elite professional golf,“ he said.
The world No 3 made the comments here on Tuesday in his preparations for The Players. For so long touted by the PGA Tour as “the fifth major”, the luster of this $25 million championship has been affected by the absence of 31 LIV players, who are all serving indefinite suspensions for joining the Saudi-funded circuit.
“When you've been the biggest golf league in the biggest market in the world for the last 60 years, there's not a lot of incentive to innovate,” McIlroy said. “LIV has caused a ton of innovation at the PGA Tour, and what was quite, I would say, an antiquated system is being revamped to try to mirror where we're at in the world in the 21st Century.
“You know, the PGA Tour isn't just competing with LIV Golf or other sports. It's competing with Instagram and TikTok and everything else that's trying to take eyeballs away from the PGA Tour as a product. So, yeah, LIV coming along has definitely had a massive impact on the game, but I think everyone who's a professional golfer is going to benefit from it going forward.”

Wait, are you saying a competitor with endless funds offering absurd money to players to leave will benefit the golfers due to negotiating power?
Holy shite was a crazy admission by Rory!!

It is diametrically opposed to what was said in the months leading up to liv.
So yeah, a pretty big admission.

When did he or anyone say LIV wouldn’t be good for him and other pros getting what they want?

You better believe it. Rory finally admits they are taking from LIV with their new innovations and all this newfound wealth is only because of newfound leverage.

Jon Rahm also said at the Players:
"Oh, it's LIV Golf. I mean, without a doubt. Without LIV Golf, this wouldn't have happened.
"So, to an extent, like I've said before, we should be thankful this threat has made the PGA Tour want to change things.
"I think I said it last week, as well; I wish it didn't come to the PGA Tour being, you know, under fire from somebody else to make those changes and make things better for the players, but I guess it is what we needed.
"So, yeah, it is because of LIV Golf, otherwise we wouldn't have seen any of this."
Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm PRAISE LIV Golf after radical PGA Tour update
Perhaps Rahm and McIlroy were two of the PGA Tour players to have actually "thanked" LIV Golf's Phil Mickelson?!
Lefty was famously quoted earlier this year saying that "a number of guys thank me profusely."

I think everyone with a brain knew the players were going to ultimately win with LIV, whether they left or not. That’s why I didn’t understand guys like Cam leaving for LIV when it was clear the PGA was going to adapt to keep their elite talent.
The only people who are losing in this entire ordeal are the fans.

Surely you are capable of grasping the significance of these admissions. It's about time to get beyond the propaganda of the Golf Channel and Jay Monahan and his speech machine. I can say with certainty that these 2 players just blew the PGA's future stonewalling and deflecting about LIV out of the water.
My only wish now is that the top 3 finishers of last season's Players, who are now playing for LIV, will go as fans. I'd pay to watch the defending champ, Cam Smith, walking around the gallery.
Jay Monahan is not a happy camper today.

I’m not sure Jay Monohan gives a shite what Rory says.
Rory is still on his tour with 97% of the young elite talent and Jay’s ratings are still much higher than LIV. Jay is winning the battle where it matters.

LIV had the better mouse trap for Cam. He's Australian and wants the international flavor. He said so. He also believes in what Norman wants for golf. That's a childhood idol for this guy.
I do believe when Cam Smith left, right after winning the Open, it was the exodus that scared the PGA and Monahan into conceding to the players for all these huge changes.

Monahan cares, a lot. He cares what Tiger says too. They have a 25-million-dollar purse this week at the Players because Monahan cares what these 2 have to say.
So the "Players" was a great time for the mouthpiece of the players to thank the people who really made it possible.

I see why Rory & Rohm & others are so happy!
Did you realize in last years Players Tournament, 9 LIV players beat Rory, Rohm, JT, and many more that will now have less competition to win the extra Million$ with the new Purse changes for this year & next year.
The quality of the field will not be as good because of LIV.
That is Jay Monahan's fault! Had he been Pro Active instead of Reactive, some of the LIV players would still be on HIS tour.
So as fans, we will now see 8 Primo tournaments & the Majors with the best of the PGA players. All of the other tournaments will be filled with a lot of Korn Ferry players.

Not like this is some breaking news, clearly PGA players have more negotiating power with the emergence of LIV.

That's not what Rory and Jon said. They said LIV golf is the reason for the season.
That my friend is a 180 with a half twist.

Guaranteed money, and a chance to make a lot more with LIV. Plus playing overseas.
Cam said he may go to the players and just walk around in the crowd lol.

Every PGA tourney is easier. So are the world rankings. Guys are now going up the world ranking food chain simply because some of the best golfers in the world, including the former world's number one, can't get points.
Oh well, one victory at a time.

Victory? Look, I don’t care that liv exists and don’t have a dog in the fight but Liv has absolutely 0 victories. Their following, viewership, and trajectory show exactly that. They paid a ton of guarantees money to golfers who wanted an easier way and they took it. The PGA reacts and literally solidified all their top golfers will not be leaving now. Liv is now stuck in purgatory cause they have no way of improving the quality of the players, their formats are pretty awful and the products is poo. But they are the reason the PGA did this. Now if that’s what Liv and it’s followers need to hang their hat on then by all means, but if you call that a victory then Liv is even bigger trouble than i think it is. Cause odds are all their top players that you’re speaking of will be back on tour in a few years tops.

And yet Rory and Jon say differently.

They didn't land another headliner after that. What an exodus
