March 12 is the spring forward for our clocks. Is it permanent?

I remember hearing that we may stay in daylight savings time from here on out. According to google there’s a chance…
Google: Section 260a to authorize states to observe daylight saving time year round. In 2022, the United States Senate passed a bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. If enacted, this bill would take effect starting in November 2023.
Will it happen?

How does congress line their pockets with this change?

Passed in Senate, hasn’t been voted on in the House yet. Who knows……
This is something Democrats and Republicans both agreed on, so you know, God forbid we can’t have any kind of success like this, so let’s shelve the bill.

No. The time will change back in November.

Hope not. frick it being dark till 8 am in the winter time.
Edit to say , if it would happen, it won't last long just like it didn't last long in the 60's when it was done.
Kids hanging on the side of the road in the dark waiting on a school bus isn't exactly a great idea.
Also makes it shitty for people who have to be at work and get started at 6-7 am.

I wish they would just meet in the middle and either spring ahead only 30 minutes one spring. Or fall back only 30 minutes one fall.
Meet in the middle and call it a day.

agree, just stay with standard time. Changing time in the spring and summer is stupid.

After 9am in some places in the US and not Alaska or Hawaii

I'm all for standard time. Love sitting out in the evening when I get home without the sun beating down on us.
We prefer the dark early

It’s sucks when it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Agree. The ones complaining now will be the first ones to complain if we stop switching. People who regularly cross state lines will be so pissed at the time difference.

I agree with you but it only lasts a month or so and adjusts naturally. It never gets dark here that early but maybe right after 5.
The alternative is it being dark until 8:30-9am at that time of the year when it's already cold in most areas.

They already wait in the dark.

I go to work early every day. It's dark no matter the time of the year.

Maybe high school age kids but elementary aged kids are not out in the dark now, but will be if we stay on dst.

Sucks for you. So coming home in the dark shouldn't be a big deal either.
Most people do not go to work in the dark currently, that would change with permanent dst, it would also likely see an increase in auto accidents and fatalities because half asleep people behind the wheel before daylight who usually aren't is not a recipe for good things.
I don't get grown adults whining about losing 1 hour of sleep one night of the year.
