If LIV was broadcast on golf channel, nbc, cbs, or fox, their ratings would’ve been similar to what the Tour got this weekend.
But it’s not. Which is kinda the point, right?

It's OK to defend LIV if you like the product.
The only thing that I disagree with LIV on is the ranking points.
There is no way that 54 hole event with no cut should weigh the same amount as a 72 hole event with the pressure of a cut line.
Mickelson has dropped into the 300's on points.
Why aren't the LIV Players asking the organization to make changes to their format so they will be on the same page as the Tour.

Players still keep the individual money they win—in Howell’s case, that was a tidy $4 million—but the $3 million for the team victory goes into the Crusher coffers, not the players’ pockets. “Each player is paid an annual salary by the team, and at year’s end bonuses and/or profit-sharing is a possibility. But that depends on how much the team earns and how much it spends, which has brought class wars to LIV.”
Sounds a lot like these players are going to be employees of the team and not independent contractors like Norman and Phil have been beating into the ground

They had more than korn ferry too.
I mean Euro basketball leagues have more viewers than the NBA G-League too. The Korn Ferry is subsidized by the PGA just like minor league baseball is by the MLB. If drawing more than the KF is the bar, that’s a low bar

Agreed. But nobody here is posting threads bashing KF calling it a failed league because it requires subsidies and gets bad ratings.

Because it is a stupid comparison. The KF is even lucky to be on any broadcast and something the PGA knows is an investment not expected to turn a profit itself, but they know they will reap dividends in the future with that young talent.
LIV has spent billions and couldn't outdraw America's Funniest Animals.

KF doesn't try to position itself as a rival to the PGA like LIV does. They know their place.

Probably because it's a subsidy of the PGA Tour as a developmental league and isn't expected to be profitable. LIV is designed to be a competitor of the PGA tour while the Korn Ferry isn't. I just don't think it's apples to apples.

just because you can’t grasp the similarities doesn’t make it stupid. In fact….well, never mind.

Not a single person has claimed LIVs goal, especially in these beginning years, was to be profitable.

Of course they do. The PGA subsidizes them.

Right, but the ultimate goal was to be a profitable and to be a sustainable professional league and competitive worldwide with other tours. That's why people are discussing LIV's trends with respect to their growth, viewership numbers, etc.

The Tour just announced they’re going to turn some of the designated events into no cut events which is incredibly dumb.
Posted on 3/1/23 at 11:34 am to Dawgsontop34
The only thing good LIV brought was the designated events. All other changes are great for the top players to become richer, but shite for the fans and the lower level guys trying to work their way up.

Got to be honest it is not clear what your position on LIV is based on your posts in this thread. You seem to think they are on the right track, but don’t really bother saying how other than their viewing numbers being better than…the minor league? I mean they bought the major league, what exactly is their strategy if not to be the major league, or at least compete with the existing one?
Typically when you develop a product with large up front costs, it is developing infrastructure with fixed long term assets. They are investing in people, athletes in a profession known for streaky success. Their image is the value. What is their plan to capitalize on that? Typically when you invest in people, you are either investing in low skill labor with a deferred return (construction), or high skill with a direct return.
I’m willing to learn here, can you explain what I may be missing?

I don’t really understand how they could watch this year’s Waste Management and Genesis and go… “yeah, let’s change this to a no cut thing.”
It makes it more like the WGCs which I generally didn’t think were that great but I’m sure it’s probably to prevent stars from leaving if they’re consistently missing cuts in those events.

It just sucks. Nick Taylor almost winning the WM can just go frick itself I guess. We are shrinking the game now, not growing it

Everyone can agree that the Saudis #1 Goal of starting LIV is"sportswashing". Then throw in Greg Norman's quest to damage or take down the PGA and it isn't hard to see where profits might come into play if at all. Profits aren't their main concern and probably pretty far down the list of things they care about here.

I don’t really have a position. I like watching LIV. Not as much as I like watching KF or PGA. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest that a handful of guys chose to go over there.
The only position I have is people melting down about LIV or constantly talking about what a failure it is are silly. It’s just more golf. I cannot imagine being passionate either way regarding LIV. Some people are, though. And it is entertaining for me to engage with those people.

I truly think your more golf argument is one of the dumbest I have ever heard
“The bartender split my $10 bill into two $5s. I’m pumped to have more money”
Or, splitting a foursome into two 2 somes and being pumped about more golf
Dawg or someone else, am I off base here?
