I guess I’ve been lucky with appliances or maybe I just made the right choices.

I'm the exact opposite. Everything I buy is broken within 5 years other than the Speed Queen washer and dryer. I think appliances were well made until the early 2000s. Most of it cheap plastic crap now imo.

Most definitely.

It’s staggering how shitty they’re designed and manufactured. I guess that’s the reason why Speed Queen is gaining popularity. While most manufacturers are producing Yugos, they’re making Toyota Hiluxs.

it seems like all the brands have their issues now. It’s a hit or miss pick your poison type of game.

Yeah I bought a new fridge last month and when doing the comparisons and research they all had issues. I ended up buying a Whirlpool from Costco. It had the best combo of price, warranty, and features the wife wanted.

After having a Samsung fridge leak just like yours, we purchased a GE for the new house

I have seen GE mentioned very little. We bought our first house, and it came with a little fridge, no icemaker. We bought a big GE, then took it with us when we moved to FL. The GE was new in 1997 and has had no issues. I am scared to vacuum the dust off of it.

We had 4 Samsung refrigerator/freezers at my job. In less than 5 years they all had to be replaced. Handles breaking, draw rollers cracking and two just quit working. They are garbage. Samsung drop in burners began acting up. Had to replace it in about year 7.

Inherited a top freezer Maytag when I bought the house.

10 years after the house purchase it's still going strong (after one ice maker mechanism replacement, $25) .

For those considering side by side or french door fridges, consider how it would work in real life in your kitchen.
The ability to switch which side the door hinges on traditional fridge/freezers could be a deciding factor.

I bought a Samsung side-by-side back in 2012. It still works but the motor to the ice maker has been an issue since very early on. Repair people have told me that the design is faulty, Samsung won't admit it, so it will just break again if you get it fixed. Evidently there is a huge class action lawsuit ongoing based on this issue. I won't be buying a Samsung again, needless to say.

Bought a pretty basic SS Kenmore at the same time for a tenant unit and have not had a single issue. Stay away from Samsung

Kenmore makes nothing, if you get the model number, look it up, it will tell you the manufacturer.

I'm sorry to hear that the refrigerator/freezers and drop-in burners at your workplace didn't meet expectations in terms of durability. When facing issues with refrigerator/freezers, it's always a good idea to consider some factors before making a replacement decision. First, researching different brands and reading customer reviews can give you insights into the reliability of the products. Opting for refrigerator/freezers with longer warranties might also provide some peace of mind. Additionally regular maintenance and proper usage can extend the lifespan of the appliances. If you encounter any future issues with refrigerator/freezers, seeking assistance from professionals can help troubleshoot and address problems promptly.
