that you use to take your decision?

Stock fundamentals (intrinsic value) - and how do you primarily assess?

Technicals (patterns)

Do you calculate expected return?

Gut feel?

Other?

I end up selling low and buying high

:-(

The key is finding quality companies and holding for very long periods of time.

The rest is color for the scenery and averages out worse than long term low cost index funds.

Most Americans should simply buy into a low cost SP500 index fund every month for 30-35 years. If you believe in America and America does well, so will you.

It is proven that over the long term, trading results in returns less than average. Look at the volatility the top 10 hedge funds cause - none of those firms will be here in 3 decades - they will go broke and be rebranded as something new.

For swing trades, it usually starts off as a technical setup, then whether or not I like the general potential of the company. Lastly I look at current valuation, P/S and forward guidance. I usually like to stick to the micro and mid caps because they have larger swings.

For example, SI is my latest play. It has been making some healthy moves in both directions, a bit of a gamble being tied to crypto, but the fundamental value potential is there long term.

Every quarter I look at my funds.
I don't do anything if they grow as much as I expect.
If they grow more than I expect, I sell some.
If they grew less than I expected, I bought some.
How much I expect them to grow depends on what they are and is based on historical performance.
