he killed that whole future talking point.
Good on Joe Biden for removing the Republicans' ability to hamstring Social Security and Medicare, as they had planned to do.

I don’t even understand this dumb arse point you’re even making. It’s a win for this potato brained moron to make up a position his opponents don’t even have bc it’s the only way he can actually prevail in negotiations?
This epitomizes the intellectual and moral dishonesty of the entire Democrat Party.
You people can’t win honestly. Really you can’t do honesty. You live in some weird, miserable place beyond the looking glass where you don’t even know what gender you are

I know this board isn't known for critical thinking, but seeing some people trying to convince themselves that this was some masterclass move by the Rs is hilarious.
Sleepy Joe used predictable republican behavior to let them box themselves in a corner, anything else is red copium.

why are D's not willing to cut other areas of the budget
Their entire power structure is based off controlling that spending. Obviously, it is how they directly control the deep state, but indirectly it allows them to control public education, scientific research, health care, etc.
I don't even think the Dems would be big into cutting defense spending right now because they believe they have wrested control from Republicans in the years since W.

They probably shouldn't openly tout that they hold these positions in written documents and on video, if they "don't even have" them.
But that's just logic speaking.

McCarthy has been saying for weeks that Medicare and SS aren’t on the table. All Biden did was remove a Democrat talking point.

Glad to see your citation to them. I’ve followed this debt ceiling situation closely. And you can’t - bc the Rs (not all of which I really like all that much) have proposed no such thing.
Your point is moronic, and dishonest, which is par for the course.
Republicans have proposed holding social security/ Medicare spending at current levels (even tho democrats, including the Potatus voted at some point to permit Congress to spend out of money I paid into SS to be available for me but that’s another point entirely) and to reduce if not eliminate moronic spending on “green energy” transgender fish studies and (hopefully) the Uniparty’s proxy and pointless war in Ukraine.
The last spending bridge spearheaded by the people operating the puppet strings on that corrupt rotting corpse posing as President, was a bridge too far.

Nah. Recycling a traditional Dem tactic is predictable. It will be effective on your side’s low IQ voters but will deflate as time marches on.

They were never really on the table. Where R’s have failed is not spelling out exactly what cuts they are seeking. It left a vacuum for Biden to attack Rick Scott’s plan to require SS and Medicare to be reappropriated every 5 years. Scott isn’t the only R that supports that idea, though there aren’t many. That plan leaves the door open for future cuts.
Political semantics game that most people are sick of.

No, not well played............He blew off both his own feet and now can't use that excuse as a campaign point any longer.
He's an idiot.

Faux issue. That’s all this is. No one was talking about cutting SS except the Dems who need these faux issues to demonstrate how committed they are to the elderly.
They do this while their economic and social policies drive up the cost if food, shelter and transportation.
You do understand that inflation is a defacto cut in SS payments, right?

Whether planned or not, he baited the Republicans and they went for it. Effectively nailed down commitment that SS&M won’t be touched, taking a potential bargaining chip off the table. Well played, to be honest. And that will be the lead for most stories on the speech tomorrow.
They weren't going to be touched anyway
Nothing was gained or lost here
If anything it looks like Biden is spreading fear for no reason

Medicare reimbursements to health providers continually get cut. Soon providers won’t be able to be profitable with Medicare patients. While the recipients may still have coverage it won’t cover the cost of services

Republicans float plans to gut Social Security and Medicare
Senator Mike Lee (R) on video - "I want to pull Social Security up by the roots"
I know it's difficult for you to escape your epistemic bubble, but Biden told the truth and used it to corner Republicans. Oops for you.

You can't remove something from the table when it was never there to begin with.

He actually may have fricked up. I haven't seen anything saying Reps. want to cut SS , I have seen McCarthy propose locking it back up which isn't the same thing.
