Going to Boston in July....

Boston is a pretty commonly discussed topic here. My suggestion rather than just repeating things already said would be to search this forum for the keyword "Boston" and see what peaks your interest then maybe follow-up with some specific questions.

There is also a quite lengthy thread that is a good resource but I would suggest spending the time to start from page 1 as some of the information is dated and no longer applicable.

The Freedom Trail is great for kids and could take a day or to depending on how many sites and museums you go to. Probably the best "history of the US walking trail" you can do outside of the Mall in Washington.

The USS Constitution (0ld Ironsides - but it's wooden, oak) ship and museum is at the end of the Freedom Trail. It is almost a mile from Copp's Hill Burying Ground which is the last FT stop before crossing the river. We had a car so we drove to the Constitution. There is a parking garage nearby and then it's a short walk to the ship and less than a 1/2 mile walk to Bunker Hill Monument. That's the end of the Freedom Trail.

There is the USS Constitution, the USS Cassin Young and a museum with some hands on activities for kids at the Boston National Historic Park.

There are the Swan Boats in the Boston Public Garden that kids might like. I think they are paddle boats but they were done for the day when we walked by.
