Headed to Asia for work in early March. Planning to go to Europe the week before (end of feb/ first week in March) and trying to decide where to go. I was thinking Italy, and If so any good solo trip recs they’re welcome. Also open to other places in europe. A little concerned about it being kind of cold. TIA

Yeah, weather is going to suck. Greece/Croatia maybe? I got burned out on Italy really, really fast. No value for except in the bottom of the boot or Sicily. The north was nice, but I could also just go to Austria. The Med at this time of year is not likely to be much better, so I don't know if I'd do Barcelona, Marseille, etc. at this time of year.

What about the Nordics? The weather is going to be shitty, you may have a better time if you just hug that problem. On the other end of the spectrum, you could do Turkey as well. There will almost certainly be a direct flight, Turkish is cheap in Biz.

Ah, you could also do Poland or Hungary.

I'm really narrowing things down here, aren't I?

Now that I think about it, Israel/Jordan (meaning Petra, mostly) could also be an option. January in Tel Aviv is windy AF, and cold, and summer is hot AF, I hope March would be somewhere in between.

Also take into consideration that there are a ton of ferries through the Med (Croatia to Greece, etc.) There are more Roman ruins in Libya than there are in Italy, supposedly, but I haven't been there.

Let's back up. So you are flying to Asia through Europe? Where in Asia and what are your Hub options on the way? That's where I'd start?

Yes parts of Europe will be cold, but outside of the Alps europe doesn't get a ton of snow so if you are dressed properly its really not an issue. I mean you aren't going to do parks and nature as much, but there's plenty to do for a week.

I’m going to India. I can bounce around the world though, not super worried about travel. I basically have a week to burn before that India trip. Israel is a cool non Europe idea I haven’t thought about. I’ve gone to Dubai already a couple times this year, I like it too.

If you hit Israel, a tour guide is worth the money. They spend close to two years in night classes learning about all kinds of stuff. My personal dude will regale you with stories of all kinds of tanker experience while he's bringing you to cool places. Just buy him whiskey after the official tour day is done, and you'll hear all kinds of awesome stuff. I'll give you his Telegram if that's where you choose to go. Most of them will travel anywhere in country, and if you choose to split it up between Turkey and IL, he knows people there too. I hate guided tours, but they know their shite.

In Jerusalem, the Austrian mission is a 100% must hit. It's in the Muslim quarter, but it's an oasis. Be warned, there is a dude that has a store down the main walkway into the old city who is 100% Alabama (I think his shop is called "Alabama"). His brother went to school there, but it's a little jarring. It's so out of place, and then you see the crimson and cream, and you're WTF?

"Public" toilets are horrendous in the old city. I mean, I'm going to go shite in a dark corner bad. Austrian mission is super clean.

Eat a ton at breakfast (buffets are often 20 yards long), skip lunch, eat dinner.

This is not a great view from the Austrian mission, if that says anything. You're at the bottom of the old city "bowl." When you take the underground tour of the old temple, you pop out probably 100m away from the mission. I've done it during Ramadan.

The Mount of Olives is rough if you're not an in shape trooper, and there isn't anything up there but a view. It's probably a 30% grade for 3/4 of a mile.

Wow thanks for all the info on Israel. Not sure I’ll make it this time but helpful advice for when I go!

The wife and I were in Italy mid February a few years ago. Spent a few days in Rome and then Tuscany. Hit Florence, Siena, Orvieto, Cortona. Weather was awesome. Chilly but sunny and clear for every day but one.

I’d pick a place with similar climate of India. It’s a pain to pack for two climates.

Why not Moracco or Tenerife.
Both are supposed to be great.
Or do Corsica and Sardinia.
