Anybody use a hauling company too bring a boat? I’m looking at a rig in south Fla and the thought of 3 days driving isn’t very appealing but the deal on the boat is

Hired a local oilfield hotshot to bring my boat from Islamorada back to Houma.

Got quotes from several boat transport companies. Local hotshot was faster and actually slightly cheaper, even heading down empty and returning. DOT certified, insurance, the whole nine yds. Lots of fly by night transporters out there with no real certifications or insurances.

Nothing like the transporter getting in an accident and the victim suing the pants off of you and the transporter since he didn't have proper towing coverage and your insurance doesn't cover someone else towing.

I looked at getting some quotes and had an onslaught of emails from shady companies. Very off putting and ended up just driving and picking up myself.

I used a transport service. The dealer recommend him. He has his own trailers if needed

Thanks guys. It is a used boat, 2021, so we have some things to work out between the owner and the initial dealer before I commit to anything. Weird thing to even consider buying a boat you’ve never rode or even seen so IDK how this shakes out. We’ll see

Woah now. This is 2 different topics here. Transport is one thing, but you aren’t even going to go see it?

Obviously price is one thing, I get it. But are you familiar with the boats and have ridden in one, etc? I wouldn’t buy a boat I haven’t walked and ridden in the model at least.

They probably got the water out of engine(s) real quick after the hurricane a few months ago. I should be fine

Due your due diligence for sure. There's some horror stories on THT from guys buying boats from Sout FL and getting hosed.

This!

I went to West Palm beach twice to buy a boat...first one in 1996was a used fiberglass hulled deck boat...was not as represented...turned around and came home...ended up meeting a guy from Pennsylvania in chattanooga to buy a 23' Master Craft ski boat with a big open front bow area

sold that

then back to W Palm beach in 1999 to buy a brand new bay boat...still have it.

That drive to South Florida isn't that bad...both times I drove straight there and back

I "would not" buy a used boat there without driving down to see it myself...buyer beware.
