LHSAA Soccor Playoffs

Starting this week! For those who care, we have some good teams out there.
Good luck to all! Teams, Coaches, Players, Officials!
Everyone except for NOLA Area Officials assignor Hector Barrios who continues to abuse his position and make a necessary job a miserable experience for all who have the unfortunate task of dealing with him.

What specifically did he do?

Soccor? Is that a new sport?

He is a known problem. My grandson tell me is runs a ref monopoly in the area - high schools and clubs can only use him. There are no alternative options for officials. He routinely sends shorthanded crews to games. My grandson says if you complain, he will not service your games in the future. He is like a much less cool, eastern european version of John Rockefeller.
If anyone here were an entrepreneur, they would start another association to compete with him. I am too old and it is just soccor.

I hate how soccer went to the 32 team format for the playoffs. 24 was perfect I thought. Soccer always had things right in my opinion. But GEAUX GATORS!!

Soccer goes to 32.... Baseball shrinks to 24.
Who's making the rules? That's arse backwards of what it should be.

I always remembered when I played the games were later in February guess I could be wrong. Glad to see my alma mater St Fredericks getting absolutely steamrolled 8-0 by Episcopal
Guess they don't have as strong of a team anymore we used to be one of the better programs in North LA.

No, baseball and softball are still divided into Select and Non-Select. The brackets are smaller because the total teams in each division are smaller.
Soccor is still broken into 4 divisions without select or non select taken into consideration.

The amount of schools that don't play soccer is pretty impressive. Also, I hear there aren't many people interested in reffing youth leagues anymore because of parents and soccer is notoriously the sport that goes after the refs the most.

I’m aware how it works. I’m saying there are far more baseball programs than soccer programs….. yet soccer gets 32 teams in. And baseball 24. Seems soccer should’ve stayed at 24. That’s what it was before.

Every region in Louisiana has one referee assignor that you have to go through. Teams could use a neighboring region to get refs assigned if they want to pay for travel.

Georgia HS soccer faces a similar problem. GSOA (Atlanta-area association) runs everything and, worse than that, the GHSA allows the GSOA assignor to assign the final 3 rounds of the state playoffs. The state completely defers to that association. Of the 16 state finals last spring, GSOA officiated 11 of them, including every final in the top 3 classifications.
Reading about the NOLA assignor having a monopoly at the club level does surprise me. I guess it's because of the city size and number of clubs. In Atlanta, that could never happen due to the sheer volume of clubs and geography.
For reference, I am a club referee, club assignor and a HS referee. I was on one of the 5 championship crews that wasn't from GSOA.

is it not like all other sports in LA where the officials don't come from either association that regularly works the two schools?

You are right, in the playoffs, this is true. And they do a great job!
Much more problematic is that in Nola this Hector character is in control of it all. Middle school, high school, club, playground .. if you see a soccor official in the region, it is because Hector charged some organization to be afforded the opportunity to pay the official.
I am telling you, someone could make a small fortune if they had the energy to challenge him.
Good luck to everyone out there! See you in Hammond if you care enough to go!

In GA this was changed recently In the first two rounds, the home team's association officiates the game. QF and onward, neutral officials are assigned.
32 teams per classification in both boys and girls.

Not unusual at all.
My girls QF assignment was #1 versus #2 in the state. HC of the top ranked team came up to my crew pregame and said, "We're a paper tiger. We haven't played anyone all season and I don't expect to be very competitive today."
His team was mercy ruled 10-0 3 minutes into the 2nd half.
