Cmon dude. I voted for Trump twice and would vote for him again but don’t twist yourself in a pretzel trying to justify everything he does as some type of swami 8-level chess to everyone’s checkers.
GOB did a lot of great things for this country but he’s also done some stupid shite.
Agreeing to sit down with Bob frickin Woodward of all people is stupid.

I guess if you are Trump, its smart to use your legal resources to go after unscrupulous media types. What other method does a conservative have to keep a hostile and dishonest media somewhat at bay? Its not like leadership at the NYT, WaPo, or any other legacy rag or publishing house will hold their people accountable for printing lies or violating sources and standards..... as long as its done to hurt their political enemies.
Better be careful with that strategy or you will get $1MM sanction...unfortunately for his joint and severally liable attorney, he's her client.

This case has nothing to do with slander. It's his own words. He's suing saying he can't publish and profit from the tapes.

I dont think he's doing it for anyone but him, but thats why hes doing it. You dont think he's going to sit back and let a hit piece author profit off of his these recordings after the book sales dry up? Not when he can fire another shot across the media's bow. That's classic Trump.
It depends. If the pending book is a known hit piece and its getting published with or without your cooperation, it wouldn't be the worst idea to go on record, recorded, and challenge the premise of the book. And it likely worked. The only red meat the media got out of that book was the "downplay" revelation and that fell apart when Fauci got exposed. It could have been much worse and filled with speculation had Trump not sat.

No disagreements on this case specifically. Im speaking generally about his media lawsuits.

Trump is an idiot for pursuing this. He has no case. At all. And no PR to gain from it either. Makes him look small, petty, and whiny.
And yet he made it all the way to POTUS and is worth over 3 billion; Of course, you are posting on the internet so I guess you know better than him!

"I edited to clarify. And, as far as I understand, releasing the tapes would still be some kind of contractual violation if not specified in writing, although I'll leave that to our scholarly attorneys like Hank to explain."
... I am not a lawyer, but how could anything be a contractual violation, if it was not specified in the contract?

Trump was shutting down travel from China while your democrat cult leaders told you to go to Chinatown and start hugging people.
Fauci said to take a cruise.

His "strategy" cost him all or a portion of $1MM in sanctions for the CNN/Clinton suit.

You win some, you lose some. But Trump, of all people, isn’t just going to lay down and take it. Why should he? Because you don’t like him? Lol

It’s an interesting question. Was there a specific denial of this use case, or was this use case never mentioned in the agreement?

"Hello my fellow Americans. I make sure that Bob Woodward, Maggie Haberman, and other people that hate me, hate my agenda, and hate my voters, get more access to me than anyone else on the planet - including my kids! Ah, you gotta laugh sometimes. But seriously, I won't give Glenn Greenwald or Russel Brand some time to sit down, or go on Tucker, but I can always make time for Maggie and the New York Times.
Now I'm going to sue them because they published things I knew were being recorded. It's not fair! I know I said those things, but it's fake news. Horrible. Terrible people. Fake news media.
What's that, Maggie wants to sit down next Tuesday for 30 minutes? Sure, I'll give her an hour. Push my tee time back. Actually, just clear the schedule, she can come by for lunch, we'll talk the rest of the day, through dinner. Make sure the good chefs are working. Only the best, you know."

The destruction wrought on this country by Woodward and his buttbuddy Bernstein is difficult to overstate.
This is not to say that Nixon wasn't a putz. He was. But the transformative power over the practice and ethics of journalism that Woodward and Bernstein ended up having has been extremely malignant. They are held up as examples, and they are the opposite of what journalists should be.

Biden made it to POTUS.
I'm guessing he's a genius then.
Why can't people just admit that Trump does some dumb things and there's not always some master plan?

I for one am completely willing to “admit” those things, but the actual things that qualify as such, we will probably disagree in that area because I don’t wake up every day waiting to jump at the first mention of Donald Trump to be able to gleefully declare “hahaha that’s another dumb thing!!” I’m only speaking for myself, but I’m a little more discerning than that.

It's okay.
Biden is president.
I love your substance-less comments that don't actually say anything except insult. It would really help further the discussion if you actually pointed out why I am a 'fricking idiot' for the comment I made.
I'm more than prepared to be a 'fricking idiot' but your comment suggests nothing of the sort.
