Why did it take so long for us to bring her home? Was it LSU or was she not ready to come back?

Joe Alleva was making Ed O type hires, not Kim Mulkey hires.

What connection did she have to LSU besides growing up in Lousiana? Played and coached at Louisiana Tech.

Brought in Van Chancellor as an established hall of famer to try to keep the program from going off the skids after the Pokey saga and that worked for a couple of seasons. Then they hired a Pat Summitt disciple in Nikki Caldwell who seemed like a good hire as she was building a good program at UCLA.

The problem was they stuck with Nikki Caldwell way too long.

Too much power for women’s basketball coach. Demanded to be paid accordingly. They rather lose money and lose than lose money and win. She is well worth her pay in recognition and positives about LSU in media/sports.

Because She And Pokey were on the outs, plus LSU didn't want to hire another female coach at that time. I believe Kim would have come to LSU in a heartbeat. I was PISSED when they hired that old, fat, washed-up guy. What "could have" been...

Yeah she hated Pokey's guts. Pokey tried to give Kim Mulkey Robertson a dead fish slide by handshake after a game one time and Kim gave Pokey they business. After the game Pokey tried to play it off by saying a dog bit her hand when she was little.

quote:

Obviously, that wasn't the case Monday when LSU hosted Baylor in a nationally televised game between two of the top 10 programs in the nation, not to mention a rematch of a 2005 Final Four game. After the final whistle, Lady Bears coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson accused LSU's Pokey Chatman of saying "something very unprofessional before the game." The incident carried over to the coaches' postgame handshake; Chatman eventually ripped her hand out of Mulkey-Robertson's grip and started walking away, even as the Baylor coach kept talking.

Kramer playing a big role on the baseball team softened her heart towards LSU. Even though she never wore an LSU shirt in the stands it went a long way to making her want to coach at LSU.

Come back? To a place she never played or coached before?

You're right Baylor disrespected her and the Women's program. After all she did for Baylor. She loved Baylor until a new AD changed the culture of Baylor and the timing was perfect for her to come home. Baylor's lose our gain.

Going way back, but. — Kim actually DID show interest in the head coaching job when Sue had to step down, but the decision was already made that it was Pokey who would inherit the head coaching job.

She came back to Louisiana and to Coach LSU when it was the most needed. Enjoy the success of the WBB program for years to come.
