How to avoid this.
1. Buy a house close to your work.
Problem solved. The end.

How much can you realistically widen the road? What happens when the project is finished and the traffic is still shite? You need to remove vehicles from the area to see relief. Lanes only help a little. I’m referring to the area around Acadian. On the other hand, yes you can’t go down to 1 lane.

should have stuck to the plan imo. It’s already 1 lane EB and 2 lanes Wb.
While true, the real issue is that you’ll have EB and WB traffic sharing the current WB flyover (along with the rest of the WB side of the interstate between the bridge and Acadian). So it’s already going to back up going west simply because you have:
- Reduced lanes available from Acadian to the bridge.
- Lane shifts where things will have to slow down.
- Ongoing construction work, which also slows things down even if the lanes are clear.
When you reduce the number of lanes to the bridge on top of all of this, it just exacerbates everything else. Even with the added WB lane on the flyover, traffic still won’t flow anywhere near as well as it would without the construction / EB closure. But it should be better than only having one lane.
Personally, I just want the shite to get done. But I do think there are some folks who won’t be satisfied no matter what. There are people who will bitch that the project doesn’t do enough on one hand, while bitching that it is too much at one time on the other hand. There are people who will bitch about the WB approach being 1 lane if they don’t widen the flyover, but will bitch about the added cost/duration if the do widen it. There are people who will bitch about studies if they try to develop a 20 year plan, but will bitch about not having a plan if they don’t.
It’s a microcosm of Louisiana politics. DOTD has plenty of frickups under their belt but this damned if you do, damned if you don’t mentality has a lot to do with why shite doesn’t get done.

It’s just such an easy target. It’s like making fun of Vandy for being trash at football.
