So I'm trying to staple 11/32" underlayment to 3/4" plywood. My manual Arrow T50 just doesnt have the muscle to drive 1/2" staples and it crumples 3/8". So it's going to struggle with 9/16".

I see there's three options: corded, cordless battery, and pneumatic. Are battery powered on par of pneumatic these days? Do the dual role staplers (staple & brad) do a good job with both? I have pneumatic brad nailer that I love, but would be nice to have cordless option.

I have Ryobi and Milwaukee tools. I see Project Farm recommends the Ryobi, but it doesnt drive brads. I'm not interested in hammer stapler even though that's probably the tool for my task at hand.

Anyone have recommendations?

I mean, if you have M18 Fuel tools already then the $300 1/4" stapler would be a solid tool. If you have a compressor then Hitachi/Metabo HPT 1/4" stapler is a workhorse tool for much less.

I have a pneumatic one and it’s great for things like you’re doing.

A combo Brad/stapler sounds nice though. I’d lean to that and battery powered given the choice. However, the markup for battery tools is super high vs pneumatic, so sometimes buying a battery compressor and pneumatic tools is a better option (since I already have a lot of pneumatic).

You seem to be wanting a 18ga staple gun but you were somehow trying to use a t50 staples to fasten luan or something. You def want an 18ga for that. Pneumatic will be your cheapest option. I've had good luck with even the harbor freight cheapies.

I know a couple of friends who have this one. Seems to be a good investment for a homeowner/hobbyist for sure. Currently 27.99 @ Harbor Freight.

I had a similar combo gun about 10 years ago from HF. Was like $30 and I used it for years before it gave up. The one or two cons was the driver hammer has to made for a 1/4" crown 18ga staple. The problem with this is when doing finish trim work with 18ga brad nails you get a bigger hole from the driver/hammer when over-driving. With a dedicated brad gun the driver is only slightly larger the the head of the brad. That and I think the one I had a slightly more limited range of lengths of fasteners able to be used.

I was coming to post the exact same complaint as you about the harbor freight one. Works great for staples but makes a huge hole when driving brads. I now only use it as a staple gun but it works great for that

Milwaukee makes a stapler for the M12 and i think it's great. It takes 9/16", and that's all i use with it.
After throwing that piece of shite hand stapler a few times b/c it never works i went get that M12 one and haven't had a single complaint with it.
I already had 2 batteries for the M12 drill i have, which i just use for minor things in the house, so the stapler was only like $120 if i remember correctly.

I've stapled wood to wood using the 9/16" staples, and they don't crimp or anything. Works great.
