This is the first I've heard of this, but when the chief is talking like this, it must be a bad video about to be released. At least it can't be blamed on racism.

Anybody familiar with this? Is this a Rodney King situation except with black cops?

All 5 cops were black and have been fired.

Riots cancelled.

Anything and everything can, will, and has been blamed on racism no matter how ridiculous, illogical, or stupid.

The police will get off the hook if they just say "White supremacy made me do it"

This is correct. I've already seen quotes to the effect of "you don't have to be white to uphold white supremacy" regarding the Cali shootings. Nothing will drive them off message, not even undeniable facts.

It doesn’t sit well with me making this about race; a young man is dead.

But according to CNN, this is one version of what happened:

quote:

On January 7, he was pulled over by Memphis officers on suspicion of reckless driving, police said in their initial statement on the incident. As officers approached the vehicle, a “confrontation” occurred and Nichols fled on foot, police said. The officers pursued him and they had another “confrontation” before he was taken into custody, police said.

Nichols then complained of shortness of breath, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died three days later, police said.

In Memphis police scanner audio, a person says there was “one male Black running” and called to “set up a perimeter.” Another message says “he’s fighting at this time.”

Tyre Nichols had 'extensive bleeding caused by a severe beating,' according to preliminary autopsy commissioned by family Attorneys for Nichols’ family who watched video of the arrest on Monday described it as a heinous police beating that lasted three long minutes. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said Nichols was tased, pepper-sprayed and restrained, and family attorney Antonio Romanucci said he was kicked.

“He was defenseless the entire time. He was a human piñata for those police officers. It was an unadulterated, unabashed, nonstop beating of this young boy for three minutes. That is what we saw in that video,” Romanucci said. “Not only was it violent, it was savage.”

The Memphis Police Department has terminated five police officers in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols. Top: Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III. Bottom: Desmond Mills, Jr., Justin Smith

My gut instincts tell me if this incident had occurred under different circumstances, Memphis would be on fire right now.

God bless everyone involved in this horrible situation.

I've already seen some pundits saying blacks can be racist to other blacks. That way they can have a headline about racist cops to fire up the riot.

My [black] manager was talking about this this morning. I told him I hadn't heard of it.

He said "'My people' don't care if black people kill one another, even the police, and that's a shame."

Doesn't fit the racism narrative. It will disappear from the news just like the Asian shooter in CA.

One of the Memphis city councilmen had a snippet at a press conference that made it to local stations talking about the story.

He said the something to the extent of how it was a shame that this black man was killed by other black men in uniforms and “The only color that matters in this situation is Blue.” I guess they’ll roll with that rallying call.

Another instance of, if the guy just complied with police, he would 99.9% still be alive

Get the ticket for reckless driving or DUI whatever .

It wasn’t worth running and getting chased down and beaten and ultimately dying.

I hope there aren’t riots . Nobody wants that.

I also hope the cops who caused his death are persecuted to the fullest extent .

Memphis is already “interesting”. All they need is one reason to level that place and it’s on.

I listened to Ben Crump's presser live on Monday. He is blaming it on racism, he said the initial traffic stop (by two black men) was a "racist stop".

Well, there is still time. All those men have that racist white supremacy flag behind them.
