Many parents cite concerns that once their children find out Santa’s magic is a myth, they’ll be "traumatized."

Also traumatizing is telling your kid they are a girl when they are a boy and vice versa., telling your kids sex between boys and boys/men and girls and girls/women is ok, telling your kids the country was founded on racism, telling your kid white people are evil and their “whiteness” needs to be eliminated, etc. etc.

The whole effort to compare Jesus to illegal aliens is so stupid. Joseph and Mary traveled back to Bethlehem because they wanted to comply with the law. Bethlehem is where they originally came from, and they were going back.

This story is the opposite of what an illegal alien does. Jesus is not analogous to an illegal alien, he's analogous to all the poor people stuck in Mexico and Central America because they can't or won't break the law.

Neither Joseph, Mary nor Jesus was an “immigrant“ of any sort at the time Jesus was born. They either LIVED in Bethlehem (if we sre reading Matthew) or were traveling between Nazareth and Bethlehem (if we are reading Luke), both of which were component parts of the Herodian kingdom.

The family became “immigrants“ or perhaps “refugees“ when they moved to Egypt (again, if we are reading Matthew), in order to flee political persecution in the Herodian kingdom, because Egypt was a province of the Roman empire at that time and thus “another country.”

This latter part is EXACTLY analogous to many immigrants in our modern situation.

The family fled from a shithole country (the Herodian kingdom) to a civilized country (Roman Egypt) to avoid being killed by the government of their native land.

People need to better understand our holidays and just how far back these traditions go and how much paganism influenced modern Christian traditions. It’s fascinating history and the fact we still do pagan religious traditions without really even knowing we are doing it

This is mostly false by definition.

For example, worshipping nature is very different than worshiping the creator of nature, even though both types of worship may see the importance of the solstice or the sunrise or trees and other symbols of nature as being worthy to be included in ritual practices.

It’s like the earlier poster in this thread who lamented the our social custom is to worship Christmas trees every year. Nobody I know worships trees! But they love the symbol of the evergreen in winter, like God’s promise of hope in the dark days of humanity and in our souls. Christ is the light that never goes out.

Did Joseph, Mary and Jesus flee the Herodian kingdom for Roman Egypt, in order to avoid being killed by the local despot?

Yes or no? Was Matthew lying?

It seems fairly clear to me that they were political refugees.

Were they “illegal immigrants?” It is a silly comparison, because “immigration laws” in the modern sense did not exist at the time.

Some parents choose to not pretend that Santa Claus is real.

Get back to me with the outrage when they seek to prohibit YOU from pretending. Until then, why do you care?

"Big Bird" is lie; the whole movie/cartoon narrative is. What is real is the symbolism behind the 'art'. If children realize that getting a gift from an unknown source is a good thing, then they will have the choice to become a giving 'Santa' for others when they realize that is what "the lie" is all about.

Gen Z virtue signaling, and contempt based on a lack of vision and the wisdom therein. "the blind leading the blind" in effect. What else is new.

I’m trying to follow your point.

Are you saying that children will grow up to be better adults if (as small children) they think that they receive gifts from a magical flying elf, rather than from their loving parents?

If that is what you’re saying, the psychology underlying your assessment would be fascinating.

There are valid criticisms of the unnecessary and wasteful consumption that is driven this time of year.

Buying a bunch of useless plastic crap that will be forgotten about in two weeks and end up in a landfill or in the waterways polluting the environment is not good for anyone.

Also, people spending absurd amounts of money for all this crap when they would be better served to save that money and shore up their personal balance sheets.

Consumerism is a cancer and we should all strive to stop buying useless shite. It is bad for everyone involved.

IMO, and per the Christian Narrative, Ag, there is not as much virtue in giving to those who one feel's a 'Worldly' (close Family) love for, as to those in need who are not one's close ties. Jesus' reply to those who questioned his familial commitment was "who are my brothers and sisters..." seemed pretty cold, if one did not understand the spiritual implication therein (Universal Love beyond the 'Natural' version).

You always offer solid stuff, Ag. Good work. Merry Christmas in the Spirit of Love, which is the essence of all Religious principle. Minus the Dark Side, of course.

The Santa thing is fricking stupid. Just give each other gifts from the heart. Forget the flying reindeer.
