I was telling my son-in-law about this the other day. Rudy wasn't even able to catch the ball with his bad cut. Def cost us the title, and too bad for Dale Brown.

Loved all of these guys; the best b-ball team in LSU history...

In particular I remember the tourey game against Lamar when he came off the bench and scored 33 pts. Everything went in that night for him

I remember the bald guy that NEVER played (Gus Williams I think), hitting two FTs with no time on the clock to win at Ole Miss.

You are thinking of Gus Rudolph. And yep, I remember listening to Dick Walcott on WJBO calling the end of that ole miss game as an 11 yr old pacing in my bedroom. Rudolph and Rudy Macklin came to LSU along with their high school coach Ron Abernathy. He was a friend of my Dads and played the role of heavy handed disciplinarian on those teams. Coach Abernathy even got me a pass to sit on the end of the bench in a pre-season game. Best LSU memory ever.

Btw, Gus Williams was a damn good point guard for the supersonics in that era.

You're right. I remember Gus Williams on the Sonics back then. They played the Bullets back to back in the NBA Finals. What I remember about Gus Williams was he seemed to drive in for a layup and "flip" the ball into the basket using no backboard.

I remember that game well. Those were the days when March Madness had 48 teams. Lamar had to win an opening round game while we had the bye. We were a 1 or 2 seed in that tournament. I remember playing Alcorn St. the year before or after first game also.

That's sad new for LSU. He was an integral part of the final four team DB amassed. Saw him when LSU beat Tenn. in the PP, and later in NO for the finals of the Mid East/West tournament. Brought LSU into the NCAA basketball upper circles. RIP WS.
