I agree 100%. I'll go a step further and say that Daniels didn't transfer here to be a backup. A QB that's started his entire time in college, even his freshman season, was never transferring to a school to simply "compete" for a starting role. I can't believe ANYONE is naive enough to believe that.

What's funny is how the fan base is split between those that think Daniels is really good and those that think he's a finished product at the collegiate level and isn't good enough to get LSU to the CFB playoffs. In most scouts projections, they had Daniels ranked lower than AR15 from UF. Florida fans absolutely thought Richardson sucked and the scouts think he's considerably better than Daniels.

We can't stop guys from transferring but we absolutely would be losing a pretty good player if Nuss left. It wouldn't be program defining or anything but it's funny how everybody that loves Daniels acts as if they would be fine with throwing Walker in there if Daniels gets hurt. Trust me, we want Nuss to stay.

It isn't about loving Daniels. This isn't high school. It's about what he did with a makeshift line and a defense that wore out by the end of the year. JD earned the starting job and nothing he has done has changed that. Nuss played in 3 games and sucked in one and still threw 6 interceptions so how bad could it be to put Howard in there to get some PT? The problem is the Nuss fan club is using one half of a game that was over to make their point. It is juvenile. You let JD start in FL St game. If he struggles then Nuss can come in and throw bombs and shake up the world. If he leaves then Howard is next man up. I think JD will take that next step and I believe BK has told him he needs to do that but if you think Boutte came back because he thought JD was leaving then you were grossly mistaken.

So two possibilities going into last spring:

A. Kelly fully expected Daniels to compete with everyone else for the starting job. If Daniels had not honestly won the job and wound up as QB2, what’s the damage? Kelly pisses Daniels off, a 5th year senior who is not even the best QB on the roster.

B. Kelly promised Daniels the starting job and held a “sham” QB competition. If Daniels had not honestly won the job but wound up QB1 anyway, what’s the damage? First, it means you piss off every other QB on the roster. Second, it means you completely undermine your entire message about hard work and accountability. Third, it means your team can no longer trust you. Fourth, it means you’re intentionally keeping your best QB on the bench.

It shocks me that so many of you think Kelly, who has been very vocal about the need to rebuild the culture of the program, would torpedo that message for Jayden Daniels when it would be against his own best interests as head coach. Why would he do that? In what way does it benefit Brian Kelly?

This “rigged competition” talk is a coping mechanism to deal with the fact that you don’t understand why the staff thought Daniels was the best QB.
