My house is about 10 years old. Most of the house is outfitted with Plex. Main water source comes in with normal pipes . When washer turns on, there is a loud clunking in the wall. I’ve done some reading, and it seems to be water hammer? Is there anything I can do DYI, before I call a plumber? Thanks.

go in attic, find where the pipes enter the attic, use spray foam in the holes so the pipes cant move.

now follow the rest of metal pipes and make sure they are firmly secured to the ceiling joists so they cannot move.

most often a problem like yours is when someone goes into attic and knocks the support blocks out from under the lines. it looks ok so people say screw it and dont fix it back, but when the hammer starts the pipes start jumping and bouncing.

had a friends house do that when her daughter threw piles of shite in her attic and it sounded like someone was beating on the ceiling when pipes were shut off.

Put a water hammer arrestor on the outlet where the bases hook to the wall. That’s all you need.
