I had it about a year ago on my stomach. Forgot what the doctor subscribed me but it never got bad and was never really painful. Just felt weird especially when my shirt would rub on it.
Hopefully you will have the same experience.
FYI, there is a vacinne you can take for those over 50.

The vaccines are not 100% effective but will lessen the effects if you have an outbreak.
The 2 shot Shingrix vaccine is supposed to be 90% effective.

Had it on my early 30s. Had neuropathic pain in my low back for over a year after the rash cleared.
Once you've had it, you know what it feels like coming on. Felt that twinge about 10 years later and hit full course of Valtrex right away

Did doc get you on an anti viral quickly? That’s key.

Hubby had it. He’s a stoic guy but after a few nights of not sleeping from the pain, he got out on gabapentin and that helped a lot.

Had it on my scalp, neck, and shoulder. It was miserable.

That's where I had it. Felt like a super tight muscle and I couldn't turn my head for about a week.

Get on gabapentin asap. Will take 2 days to get into your system but will be a life saver. It doesn’t cure anything, it just numbs the nerves so that you don’t feel the pain.

I have them around my eyes.
I know 2 people who lost an eye each to that crap. So, pretty bad imho.

One of my employees had them about a year ago. We were already short handed at work and he roughed it out to be a team player. I never seen a grown man work through so much pain

Ugh. Good luck. I had them around my waste and it was miserable. Around the face sounds awful.

It depends where you get them. I got them across upper back to shoulders and up the sides of neck slightly.
It caused shoulder & back of neck pain that was wicked.
I got the antifungal med but should have gotten it sooner.
I got the Rx ointment. Whoever it was that said a home remedy paste worked. Please post it if you were serious.
I would go to an eye doc/urgent care if I got them near my eyes.
They burn and the pain is hard to describe.
