I started jiu jitsu 3 years ago and have nothing but good things to say about it, minus the neverending tearing of cartilage and tendon. Even if careful. It happens. I’ve broken my pinky toe on both feet. Disfigured my fingers/knuckles. Have a little bit of cartilage separation in one ear. And twisted a knee twice. Also tore a pec muscle. Also have some mild tears in my bicep tendons that constantly ache.
Be prepared to hurt.
Also aside that it’s way overpriced imo.

The young thundercats that join our gym with high school or college wrestling experience are great to roll with. Hard as shite to handle.
Wrestlers and crossfitters. Or better yet wrestlers who crossfit. Beasts.

wrestling experience
My instructor made 2 tours of Nam voluntarily and stayed in the marines for 20 something years. Went to Japan to test for 5th dan in krotty.
He said the scariest thing was when he was a cop and got into it with a wrestler. Scared him so much he sent one of our blackbelts out to learn bjj in the 90s. He came back as a blue belt and taught us.
So now I know shitty krotty with a minimum knowledge of 90s south American ground judo

Yes, started to see the influx of wrestlers in BJJ schools (mainly high school grads) here in Texas about 5-10 years ago. Maybe more in Dallas but honestly, there wasn't a ton of high schools that had wrestling here in Houston until recently. In fact, my son was on the first wrestling team in Kingwood back in like 2015. BJJ guys like to start on their knees to roll and wrestlers have brought the art of starting on the feet and obviously take-down/defense plus just their shear stamina on the mat. You add in a little judo to a BJJ guy's game along with wrestling and you have a pretty salty individual.

Currently sitting with a broken pinky toe… tell me about the recovery and what you did. I’m about to go crazy.

The only advice I can give is to tape your toes really well. Take a motrin before and after class. It took my toes about 5 months each before I wasn’t noticing any pain anymore. It’s annoying for a long time.

pinky toe
How about you tape it to the adjacent toe, quit being a little bitch, and get back on the mat.
