This game doesn't deserve the poor reviews. In no way is it deserving of a 4 or 5 out of 10. It's not perfect by any means, but it's better than the Avengers came that came out a few years ago despite faring worse critically.

Some quality of life enhancements would go a long way. Knighthood challenges should carry across all characters. An entire skill tree with the most unique abilities as well as essentially movement abilities (cape gliding, etc) are locked behind the completion of specific challenges. 10 challenges a piece for all 4 characters equates to 40 challenges.

Enemies need their hit points adjusted by about half.

Enemy health pools seem to be balanced around co-op play. Some fights, especially those against heavy enemies and bosses just drag.

The game looks quite nice. It's less stylistic than the Arkham games, but Gotham looks like an actual city now instead of a theme park. Looks kind of like Gotham in Batman Forever as opposed to Gotham in Batman Returns if I could give a movie comparison.

I also like how obtaining new gear actually results in changes to your physical appearance.

Stealth is a disappointment. It feels like an afterthought. It's very standard crouchwalk, sneak behind enemies, and knock them out/kill them. Most areas don't really even feel like they are designed for stealth. There's none of the swinging between ledges and sneaking around vents like in the Arkham series.

The open world, while it looks nice, needs more varied activities. There are about 5 different types of activities that you can do: save citizens, stop a deal between two gangs, clear a hideout, prevent enemies from opening a door(?). The locations vary, the gangs vary, but it's virtually the same activities over and over again. I will say though that the way these activities organically pop up around the world is novel. Essentially, just by doing things around the world such as fighting bad guys and stopping crimes, you gather leads that unlock additional open world activities.

The story missions, while well made, still mostly boil down to beating up enemies. In fact, that's pretty much the entire game really. There isn't very much beyond that to break up the monotony of beating up bad guys with your fists.

Overall, comparisons to the Arkham games are inevitable. Gotham Knights is its own thing though. Most everything bad about the game can, in some way, be tied back to the apparent need to support co-op play.

I'd be down for a sequel that irons out the quality of life issues and provides more varied gameplay.

with the very middling reviews at best and no hype what so ever, i'll take your word for it. just zero interest generated at this point and enough out there to keep me occupied anyway.

i think it suffered a lot from being not marketed, which probably says a lot about the publishers faith in it.

I’m currently playing it. I didn’t buy it day one but picked it up on Black Friday sale.

I’m enjoying it for what it is and have a lot of the same “issues” as you do. I’ve just been grinding and not playing much story missions quite yet. Only enough to unlock new side activities.

I unlocked all characters knighthood abilities. They should all have Batgirls traversal in some way. Nightwing’s sucks. I think the traversal is seriously lacking when compared to what we are used to in the Arkham series.

Saw it for 35 bucks, basically everywhere.

Picked it up on PS5 for my kid. Steam has it for 35 as well.

I’ve put in a little time now and admit that I’m having a good time. There are a couple of issues that are annoying (having to be in the perfect position to trigger a prompt to push buttons, etc), but I’m starting to enjoy the combat. It’s certainly different from the Arkham games but that’s ok. The story is also intriguing….

Spoilers even though no one seems to care about this game……

The introduction to the Court of Owls and the first time exploring their HQ along with the escape through the dungeon was very well done.

There is a lot of repetition required to build up XP and the method to unlock fast travel is unnecessarily tedious but I’m still enjoying the game. I like the way it’s broken up into nights out on patrol. I typically exhaust an entire night in one sitting and then turn it off.

I like how the 4 heroes level up together. I found myself playing Red Hood only for the first 5-6 nights and was concerned that I would be screwed with the other characters being under leveled when I decided to start trying them out but it lets you bump them up to the same level as Red Hood

I finished the story and all side missions. Now I’m just working for the platinum trophy, which is kind of a grind due to random spawning.

I enjoyed the story and side missions; I just think it was too short. I think the total would be close to 10-12 hours of you just did “case files”. That’s not long enough for open world games.

My biggest complaint is still traversal. It was nothing like the Arkham games. I also grinder a lot more than I needed too. I capped out my level (30 on first play-through) way too fast.

SPOILERS

I just officially uncovered who The Voice is...of course they telegraphed it big time and I had a decent idea who it was after they showed Alfred meeting with him earlier in the game.

This Court of Owls stuff is really well done and spooky. Loving this storyline so far. I feel like this game does a better job with the "detective" stuff than the arkham games did. I wasn't a huge fan of the Arkham Knight scene recreation stuff, for instance.

Damn, just finished the main story…still have 12 or so trophies left to get for platinum.

I thought the story was very very well done. That ending was something else. It caught me off guard although I probably should have seen it coming

It's a fun game imo. pretty decently made. Not perfect but nothing is. If it's fun it's fun.

It's best enjoyed when played as Red Hood IMO. He's the most 'Batman' type character. Robin is too young and Nightwing and Batgirl are too perky or friendly.

Coupled with the brutal takedowns and the fact that he's basically the last guy anyone would expect to turn a new leaf given his history and he's an easy favorite.

My biggest gripe is honestly that I wanted 2022 Arkham Knight and didn't get it.

I probably played with Red Hood 80% of the time. Did just enough with the other characters to get a feel for them but Red Hood was easily the most fun
