Anyone on here have one? I’m looking at possibly getting the new one Zwift just put out. I don’t want to spend $1000+ on the top end models. What ones do you recommend, if any, in the $500-700 price range?

Do you have a bike you can put on the trainer or are you wanting an all in one solution? Lots of models cheaper than your price point if you have a frame to put on the trainer. Wahoo kickr is solid.

Yes I have a road bike that I’ll put on the trainer.

I have an Elite Direto XR. On sale at REI for $599 right now. I'll tell you that with the "lower end" smart trainers like this, the connectivity and software leaves something to be desired. The app is clunky and I drop the signal sometimes and have to reconnect to Zwift. A Wahoo Kickr is going to be the most friendly. But if you don't want to shell out the extra Benjamins for that, the Direto might be your answer.

I have a Trax Smartflow that is decent. Like the poster above said, you can get connectivity issues with the cheap ones. But I hate riding indoors and Zwift doesn't help me much, it still boring as hell . I would rather ride in 25 degrees outside than ride inside.....unless it's raining.

Check eBay and Facebook Marketplace. There are good deals to be had on used smart trainers. I got a used Wahoo Kickr for a few hundred bucks off the price of a new one. Not sure if you’re a member of any, but there are lots of cycling/triathlon gear selling and trading groups on Facebook. One in particular that comes to mind is Tri ‘n Sell It.

I had a wahoo kickr but got rid of it.

It was nice, but It made me resent my bike and riding. I have learned to brave every weather condition that exists above 32°.

I’m with you. I know I’ll still enjoy riding outdoors better. I kind of want the trainer for bad weather days and I have a son on the way so I won’t be able to ride as much after that.

This was going to be my suggestion as well. I see used Kickrs regularly going for below 500 bucks on my Marketplace groups. Lots of people bought during COVID and are getting rid of them, now.

V5 kickr is on sale now at wahoo website. $799.

Decided V6 upgrades not worth $500.

Thanks. I’m think I’m going to go with the V5 Kickr. Seems worth it to spend a little more to get a good trainer.

My recommendation would be to find a used tacx neo original, 2 or 2t. I have the OG tacx neo and it has been absolutely bullet proof for 4 years and I have probably put close to 1000 hrs on it

Cant go wrong with the kickr. I’m about to retire one with around 20k miles on it. Use it for structured workouts and bad weather. Still works like it did when it was new

Another vote for the Wahoo Kickr. If you search their site they usually put deals on previous years Kickrs. That’s how I got mine and it has performed well.

Also, if you go the used route be aware of the differences in years. Some of the older Kickrs were loud. With a newborn this could be a problem. This link shows the various models. For some model years there are very minor visual changes.
