What I am hearing is that the car Darryl came upon was abandoned. The man came out of the woods and attacked him and tried to drag him to the tree line.

Not sure yet. I do hope this brings about policy changes in Which MAP units do not have stop at every vehicle on the interstate. I have voiced these concerns before but I can tell you that MAP management is not the most receptive or reliable bunch.

When I met him I think he was 58, that was around 2015 or so.
Not really sure. He was definitely young at heart and didn’t complain much.

Allow the MAP guys that wish to carry a weapon a POST firearms qualification and let them carry.

A sincere thank you and props to the deputy who shot and killed the attacker. I hope the attacker suffered all the pain and fear a person can while he was dying. Woulda been better if they’d have burned him alive.
There was a young couple (hitchhikers) that was butchered in the woods between the ICWY and the Loves Truck Stop there years ago. The couple sought refuge in an abandoned Texaco there. Unfortunately for them, 2 Mexican drifters were sleeping there as well. They butchered the boyfriend with a machete or similar edged weapon then drug the girl into the woods, raped, and murdered her. It was a pretty grisly crime as I recall.
