Cecil The Diesel, Honey Badger, Harold Perkins...

Harold is in "rare air" in LSU history with jaw dropping debuts in their first year as Tigers.
Cecil The Diesel Collins - Had an unbelievable first 4 games as a Tiger and had the potential to be the greatest Tiger running back ever based on his first 4 games. Obviously an injury an ultimately legal problems led to his demise and never saw the field for the Tigers.
Honey Badger - Tyrann was the most spectacular Tiger defender in recent history. Heisman Trophy finalist, All American honors galore. Due to drug issues, his Tiger playing career was cut short.
Harold Perkins - On pace to exceed, jaw dropping performances of Honey Badger and Cecil the Diesel. What kind of support system does he have around him to make sure his Tiger career does not get cut short like the other two "jaw dropping" Tigers mentioned? Anyone know anything about his support system outside of football? T

It was his first year playing but not his first year. He was ineligible his first year due to his ACT scores.

He was good his Freshman year but his sophomore year was his breakout year and when he got all the accolades you mentioned.

As a true freshman, he has exceeded them already. I can't recall anything really like it.

That was his answer to a Jeopardy question.

Justin Vincent at end of 2003 when he got his chance to be the guy really was awesome.

Not really. He was good, but there were GIANT holes to run through. Fans just can’t seem to understand that a back has to be judged based on the opportunities, and Vincent had GREAT opportunities.

Might need to rewatch some 2010 games. Mathieu was exceptional as a true freshman.

Overrated.
3 Touchdowns in 4 games
This guys legendary status is ridiculous.
Downvote me bitches.

Mathieu had 4.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 2 int and 3 fumbles recovered as a freshman. Guy was unreal from the word go.

You realize these kids get paid NIL money now, right?

No doubt. Perhaps I shouldn't have said good because he was exceptional. But his sophomore year is the one the OP describes with the accolades.
Note though that Perkins is only 5 tackles short of matching TM in total tackles. Perk has 3 FF and 1 int compared to TMs 5 FF and 2 ints. But Perk has at least 4 games left to play. TM's numbers are for 13 games, perks are for 10. Arc is similar.

Bro, sometimes being a contrarian just means you’re being an argumentative retard.
In the only 4 games he ever played, Collins had 72 carries for 596 yards for an average of 8.3 yards per carry.
And he did this while being on the same team as Kevin Faulk, Rondell Mealey, Herb Tyler and Tommy Banks.
He rushed for half of what Faulk did in about 1/3 of the carries.

Right, I realized I shouldn't have said good but I was primarily addressing the accolades that the OP was discussing. Look at Perks numbers for this year, they look similar to TMs with at least 4 games to go. 7.5 sacks, 1 int, 2 FF.

It’s a matter of perspective. People use 1/4 of a season sample to come to the conclusion that he was/could have been great. Possibly the best.
We don’t know and will never know and I am not willing to talk about a guy in the same convo as other tigers that could not do the bare minimum to be a part of that team.

I don’t think any kind of support system would’ve helped Collins. Look up his interview in jail.
Honey Badger is a different issue. How bad was his weed problem really? I’m sure Saban and other programs have encountered this issue and figured out a way to keep a kid on the field until they decide to go pro.

People talk about Cecil for what he was. Fantastic over 4 games.
He was incredible. No one counts him among the all-time greats.
You are arguing against a straw man.

Comes from better background
Cecil and Badger were raised in very bad environment
Perkins is like Devin White very grounded
