Been on a big NMH kick. Ever since I first heard it, In the Aeroplane Over Sea was probably my favorite album of all-time and that is still probably true, but they have some great non-ITAOS songs too. Truly great band, from Louisiana too

Honorable mention to Song Against Sex, Ghost, Two Headed Boy, Two Headed Boy Part 2, Oh Comely, Gardenhead

Number one for me is "Oh Comely". The fact that he did the vocal in one take is amazing. You can hear someone in the studio (some say it's Robert Schneider, the producer, or Scott Spillane, the horn player) yell "Oh shite!", at the end of the song.

Supposedly Mangum was just going to sing a part for sound check and decided to sing the whole thing through. Schneider just left the tape rolling.

2nd is "King of Carrot Flowers" then "A Baby for Pree" from On Avery Island.

King of Carrot Flowers.

It reminds me of my freshman year at LSU.

For those that haven't already, check out the Jeff Mangum - Live at Jittery Joe's album. This was recorded before Aeropolane. The audio isn't the best but it's a great performance and cool to hear some earlier / alternate versions of the songs. LINK

I wish we could have 1 more album from this band, back when they were at their peak.

That is a great live album (even with the crying baby). You can tell some of the ITAOS songs are still taking shape.

The Elephant 6 Recording Company documentary (of which NMH is the most well know band) is making the film festival rounds.

Hopefully to be released before too long.

These guys were from my hometown of Ruston, LA. They were the same age as my oldest brother and I can remember my brother listening to some of their homemade tapes back in the late 80's.
