Any alternatives to a car dealer for a new key fob?

Holy moly the part alone is $268 plus tax and service costs. I just want to have a spare fob for my older Toyota Highlander.

I think ACE Hardware now does this. Most of your auto parts stores do it now also. Cost I do not know. Lowes also.

There’s lot of retailers online.
I’ve used Car and Truck Remotes to replace mine that was stolen. I was able to program it myself from the procedure in the manual (GMC).
Depending on the style of backup metal key, it may require a special cut (high security key). I had to go to an Ace Hardware that had the right machine, and they had to order the key since they would not machine one I had bought since it was a risk to their machine.
This cost a little extra, but still was not bad. I think key+cutting was like $50. Fob was $100, so I was all-in for $150 vs the ~$500 the dealer wanted for key+programming.

Hutch's Hardware in Prairieville sells them. It's an Ace Hardware store

Order one 5 or 6 years ago from Amazon for like $12 for Chevy Tahoe. Worked just like the originals

Ebay. On You Tube will tell you how to program it if you have one original. If not locksmith. You may check with them first before your order it.

Ace Hardware on Millerville. If you go to a reputable place it’s going to be about $200-$250.

I ordered a couple on Ebay for my son's truck for $20 bucks or so IIRC. They work flawlessly.

I got 2 GMs from Amazon in 2000 and they work fine.
The description identified the vehicle model and I went with it.
They were $25 shipped.

I used a place in Baton Rouge called Tiger Locksmith. I don't remember the price but I remember they were much cheaper than the Ford dealership and were the best price out of the several that I called. Tried the Amazon route first with no success. I think there was something strange about having to have both of the original keys that came with the vehicle in order to program a new one - but that may have been specific to my vehicle.
