Socialists are the greediest bitches on the planet. They want all the money and wealth.

They just cannot generate wealth, which is why its a quick race to the bottom.

GN is a terrible politician but I, too, sometimes question the consistent quarterly records big oil sees.

Here’s what’s on the tax side of the ledger:

-The federal government charges an excise tax of 18.4 cents per gallon.
-California’s excise taxes on gasoline come to 50.5 cents per gallon.
-That includes 12.7 cents per gallon from the controversial Senate Bill 1 that became law to improve infrastructure and develop transportation programs across the state.
-Plus, there’s a state sales tax. It can vary by area but the Stillwater analysis estimated the sales tax averages 10.7 cents per gallon.

Put together, Californians pay 79.6 cents per gallon in gas taxes.

Now for the fees Noda says are often overlooked:

-Underground Storage Tank fee of 2 cents per gallon. Established in 1991 following reports of numerous tanks leaking, the fee raises money to clean up underground petroleum storage tanks across the state.
-Fuels Under the Cap fee, which is part of the state’s cap and trade program that requires suppliers of polluting fuels to purchase allowances to offset the emissions that result from burning those fuels. The fee varies depending on the price of the cap and trade allowances and currently comes to 14.3 cents per gallon.
-Low Carbon Fuel Standard, which requires suppliers of fuels with high carbon intensity to purchase credits from makers of fuels with lower carbon, such as ethanol and biodiesel. This fee also varies but using recent prices, Stillwater estimated it at 22.6 cents a gallon.

All told, the fees come to 38.9 cents per gallon.

Add that to the 79.6 cents in taxes, and California drivers pay $1.185 — or rounded to $1.19 — per gallon in taxes and fees.

You talking about US based oil companies or the worldwide industry?

Both "sides" piss me off here.

Look, like just about any business, they focus heavily on profit percentage, and not having that reduced.

If I sell something for $1 and it costs me 80 cents to make, my profit percentage is 20%. If my costs go up to $1.60, I have to sell it for $2 to make the same 20%. But the reality is... I now made 40 cents on the sale, not 20 cents. And I didn't really have to do any more work.

Fuel is generally a product where the producer can almost always pass along cost increases to the end user.

So when the oil companies and their boot lickers are saying "but muh higher costs" tell them to suck it. It's not impacting them one bit... except giving them hihger profits.

Why are costs going up? Because of the policies of those greenies and leftists. If we had a reasonable energy policy, costs would be much lower. Well, also if the Dems didn't want to play war games in Ukraine as well. So when the left starts crying... they can blame themselves. They are the ones causing higher prices.

Those of you who are pinning this on tax increases... shut up. CA raised their gas tax 1 cent... that doesn't explain an 80 cent increase in prices. Their taxes on a gallo is about 45-50 cents higher than the tax in LA... which again doesn't explain why prices there are SO much higher. What does explain the higher costs are the higher processing costs due to the blend of gas required, higher transit costs on what is shipped into the state, and higher costs on what is producced there due to higher cost of living (wages, property, etc).

So like everything else... just about everyone is full of crap and pushing their incorrecr ideas.

How much did they raise their margins? Since you know so much.

Whats your solution to private oil companies, a Government monopoly?

It’s almost like Democrats have no idea how a market works. I guess they don’t have to, they’ll spout off the most inane platitudes and their voter base laps it up.

LA is 38 cents so CA is about 80 cents per gallon more expensive using your numbers.

Again, it's more than just taxes.

But for some reason the oil companies have decided to play the game with the communist. The left has said their goal is to end oil and gas, and the idiots in charge do nothing to fight back.

What a fricking dick head. The California government literally just imposed a new, additional gas tax.

Progressives and liberals say that the tax will be paid by the corporation, not passed along to the consumer.

They are making all the money they can. That's how they "fight back".

You’re more than welcome to gather some funding, acquire some oil & gas leases, contract a rig, drilling and frac crew, contract some pumpers and construction screws to build a facility and flowlines, and start flowing production to be part of the free market.

Which benefit the wealthy, not the poor or middle class.

California is a demographic time bomb. They've chased off a viable middle class, and the poor sure can't afford gas at these prices
