I was there as well. That was incredible. Burks must've been in the air for 20 feet before decapitating that dude in the endzone. I remember LSU lining up for the kickoff, some holding Tulane helmets... Tulane refused to come out.

Fans spent an extra half hour in the ramps watching the replays on monitors.

I assume you must be a youngster, but there is some serious dis-like between these two schools. At one time it was a bitter rivalry...........

It was the best pure football fite I've ever seen & I've had seats in TS since 1961. They even stopped the game with time on the clock it got so bad & out of control, players vs players & the fans were standing screaming like the Romans must have acted. If ESPN existed back then, Burks' decleater would still be showing on any highlites of Plays of The Game Classics.

Yes, Tulane always wanted to spoil LSU's hopes for a bowl game. One year they came to TS with the motto, "LSU ain't sweet enough for Sugar" hoping to foil the Sugar Bowl.

We watched for what seemed like an hour and it was absolutely a crazy scene. We were shoving each other around in the stands, sparring and such. That was just some frickin wild shite!!!!!

Well, I'm 39 .. in 1984 I was a sophomore in hs and didn't have a clue about LSU much less LSU football ...

Anyway, I know that we've always kicked Tulane's arse except for that 1 game that they beat us (when was that???) and yes, I'm aware of the "dislike" for each other!

Oh, and I like being called a YOUNGSTER ... really, makes me almost forget the next birthday!

I've been to many games, but that one is in my mind like it was yesterday! YOu could feel the elctricity in the air. I was trying to yell at the top of my lungs to my brother who was next to me, but he couldn't hear me; hell, I couldn't hear myself.

that one and the Florida State game when the fans were throwing oranges out on the field. There was also a game with the fans throwning sugar cubes as well.

I was at the Florida State game in '82 when the oranges were thrown. I remember that game because of the fog that rolled in around halftime. It was an eerie scene. I think that was the same year we lost to Tulane but I don't remember anything about the '84 game.

It was pretty wild, the refs called the game , but the southendzone was so pumped up after that no one wanted to leave. Secretly hoping for round two.
Burks got the best shot for sure. But it was all out on both sides for sure. Remembering one greenie walking to the endzone to take his helment off before he started swinging.

LINK

This loss came a week after LSU beat Fla. St. and had already been invited to the Orange Bowl. You can see one fight almost breaking out and the next match-up in TS (1984) was a "Powder Keg" waiting to blow...................
