The amount of air time devoted to him was ridiculous.

He was a lifelong drug addict who died of an overdose of powerful opioids combined with fentanyl.

Supposedly impartial announcers were singing along and basically talking about him ad nauseam as if he was Florida`s favorite son.

He also didn’t even go to UF. I mean that would be like LSU having a Webbie appreciation day and making our sporting events all about him because he was born in BR which just happens to be in the same city as LSU. It’s weird as shite

I like it because they tout the lyrics "I won't back down" and then they back down for the 4th year in a row. Its perfect for the Gators.

overrated af, he was half way into his career before he sort of stopped Kravitzing the Birds, Dylan, and the Beatles and wrote something different sounding, he made a bunch of bucks, apparently was a fair producer , but overrated af, he really got his break when disco began to dominate radio and all of the rock pioneers were taking a break in reab

Had he died at 27 instead would he seem more amazing?

back in my day LSU used to lay claim to Stephen Stills and Randy Newman, Stills may have spent a semester at LSU, probably to avoid the draft, but Newman was definitely was a transient

We only celebrate famous people who do this.
It’s different for those under a bridge on College and I-10.

He spent his career imitating Roger McGuinn. RM got maybe 5 yrs of stardom out of it, while TP got a 40 yr star career.

In one of my fave ironies McGuinn, desperate for any kind of attention, eventually toured in support of Petty

Here Comes My Girl kicked arse at the time of release, it was a perfect cruising song. Most of the rest was average.
