Saints 08 draft

Ellis, Porter, Nicks already starting and providing solid contributions as rookies.

Pressley and Arrington, injured but appear to be potentially solid back ups

Mehlhaff, what were they thinking drafting a kicker who possibly would have been available as an undrafted free agent

Still overall, getting 3 good starters, 2 bench players and one miss out of 6 picks (I guess 8 with the trades Ellis and Arrington) isn't a terrible draft.

ok ellis is solid, has missed games due to injury already. porter is on IR. nicks was the best pick of this draft for us. pressley on IR. cut the kicker we wasted a pick on...twice. arrington on IR.

so we got 2 people we use one is a back up. the other has missed games already because of injury. i mean yeah we didn't trade our whole draft for one player, but does that mean it was a good draft?

it wasn't terrible, but why take a chance on someone in the first round and have to pay them absurd amounts of money when you have a proven product infront of you.

why do people get bent out of shape about our 5th round pick not making the team, late picks rarely make the team

Ellis is a starter when healthy. Porter is a starter when healthy. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks but as of right now Nesbit is back on the depth chart...behind Nicks
LINK So that's 3 starting caliber players out of this draft.

What is this comment referring to? Meachem? The numbers say 1st round WR's are likely to be busts, so unless it's a sure thing or you're desperate, stay away. He was definitely a risk not worth taking. But the point is that the Payton regime has gotten lucky on enough late round diamonds in the rough, and trading for veteran starters that they overall have a decent draft record and it shouldn't be assumed that any draft pick will be wasted.
