Non-Ski Winter Trip Ideas

Trying to plan a winter trip for a friend turning 40. Will be 4-6 guys, all live east of the Mississippi. Looking for ideas for snowy locales for a weekend. Guy would live in Greenland if he had his druthers but married a southern gal who hates snow.
Ideally would be something within an hour drive of a major airport - Minneapolis, Denver, Detroit, New York, etc.
This is not a ski trip. Some hiking would be a plus. But guy really just wants to sit his arse in a bunch of snow.

Summit County Co (Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon) Snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing available. Very good food scene in a Breck. 100 miles from DIA.

Traverse City, MI. Tons of snowshoeing, cross-country, snowmobiling options. Fly into Flint instead of Detroit to save some driving time.
If you don't want to drive that far, Cadillac is an option.

Some solid suggestions thanks all. We actually did Burlington in January for this guys bachelor party because he watched the end of the Shining and apparently thought “that looks like fun.” And it really was fun I loved Burlington.
Would love to do traverse city but think that may be too long of a travel day for most.

How about Buffalo NY? Sabres game, get wings at bar Bill in east Aurora, there's a beer festival sometime midwinter that is a ton of fun at the convention center, go see Niagara falls when it's frozen, snowmobiling, tons of bars.

Not too many people visit Yellowstone during winter but it's a great time to go. Most of the roads close to vehicular traffic Nov to mid April but there are several routes in the park that are open to oversnow travel.
You can snowmobile to Old Faithful or the Grand Canyon area. Most people do this as a day trip from West Yellowstone. But the Snow Lodge and Mammoth Hot Springs are both open inside the park. Mammoth has tours to Grand Canyon. Snow Lodge is near Old Faithful if you wanted to stay a night there. One night is generally sufficient to enjoy the area and the experience .

Nowhere near a major airport.
I would totally do that though.

Grand Lake would be perfect…
Agreed except sometimes it snows so often, so early, and so much that you can wind up there for longer than intended.

Yea kind of ignored by most responses, but I still love the enthusiasm from all.
Also - Yellowstone in winter is on my bucket list. My dad did a winter trip just he and my mom years ago and says it was his favorite outdoor experience.
