22LR Conversion Kit Thoughts?

Does anyone have one for their AR-15? I debating getting another rifle that is chambered in 22LR vs the Conversion Kit. It would save me at least $200 to use kit but wasn’t sure if it works as well?

The only thing that has always worried me about any 22 conversions is how dirty a round the 22 is. I would not want to put 22 debris into a full size firearm that I wanted to have function properly.

Don't worry about it. Shoot a half dozen or so 5.56 through it when you're done and it'll be all blown out and good to go.

I have it.
Kids shoot it all the time.
Groups nicely with mini mags or velocitors.
Shoots low and to the left at 25 yards when scope is zerod at 50 with .223.
Can hit flip targets at like 50 with no adjustments using the good ammo.
You can get on the paper with the generic shite.
A lot of fun. Really helped the kids practice the trigger break and grouping as well ad loading and u loading clearing rifles. I let them change the bolts out themselves.
My 8 year old still has trouble opening the rear pin to open the rifle.
Edit: got rid my my mossberg 715t once I got it. They can practice with the rifle they actually shoot.

Not sure it would work that way, but sounds like fun!

quote:Same with pistol conversion kits. I have used conversion kits on my Glock 19s for close to 20 years - those MiniMags may be dirty (like any .22LR), but a couple of 9mm mags apparently get rid of it pretty well.
It does work that way.
Never had to do any sort of special cleaning. I have one G19 that I use to train new shooters. It has roughly 1000 rounds of .22LR and about another 1000 rounds of 9mm through it since the last time I cleaned it.

My SIL has built a couple of them and put cans on them too. Very fun to shoot and whisper quiet.

the one I had was a piece of shite. had to run it dripping wet to to get it to work half arse decent and would have alot of rounds fired out of battery or jams. i think it was the cmmg.
prob much better to just get a M&P 15/22 or only $200 ish more.

I thought about it then just decided to get a 10/22 and trick it out. Think I paid $550 for everything I wanted with the 10/22 vs. $175 for the conversion kit.
