I don't understand why they don't break the old films out and learn how to play defense again. Should have plenty of archived footage.

You do realize Miles offered Muschamp first last offseason and he said no, right?

trey512, Muschamp will be a HC by late January, his DC days are soon over, he lands a job at either Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, or Wash.

I seriously doubt that. If Muschamp isn't HC at Texas by late January, I suspect he will at least be a "selected replacement" for Brown. If Texas wins the Title again, I'm betting Mack Brown retires on top and Muschamp takes over.

Miles is a smart man, but I just have this gut feeling that he is going to give them one more year to try and get it figured out. Inevitably, it won't work, and next year's D will suck too, but we'll still manage to win 9 or 10 games because of our offense.

Hope I'm wrong.

Trey, is that your real name or does the name represent your age?

While a big Muschamp fan, I highly doubt a program of Texas' stature and current standing, will hire WM due to his youth, inexperience, and being on the wrong side of the ball, in terms of how UTexas Football has earned it's living these past twenty years(aka Offense and moving the ball)..

I'd think Texas would hire a Chris Peterson, Gary Pinkel,etc..even TT's Mike Leach with a hefty-paid DC to coach the D..before a Will Muschamp.

Clemson is more desperate for an energetic dynamic recruiter in a new HC..

Auburn is built more on D, and has a need to counter Saban in-state recruiting, and/or be challenged by a former pupil, one that knows that area of the country as a player and coach, etc..

WM looks a better fit for Clemson and Auburn..imho.

If he can make it a two-year experiment and still manage 9 or 10 wins next year even if it "fails", I can live with that. But if it doesn't show improvement, or it starts costing us 5 or 6 games a year instead of 2 or 3, then we should be very worried.

Our Special Teams were HORRENDOUS* for the last two years, but yet he PROMOTED the SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR to CO-DC. What makes you think that he has the sense, balls or gall to make the proper change rather than being loyal to his buddys (a la Tepper and McConnell)?

*Crappunt led to - BP @UF, PRTD @ Ole Miss and @ Bama.
Kick Coverage was generally garbage.
Chevis was left as PR for far too long.
The one bright spot on the ST has been K and P but the coverage and return squads have been mediocre at best.

Are you really in that much of a hurry that you can't spell out some of this stuff?

he wasn't offered because his name comes up too often during every offseason as a head coach candidate. that's what was in the advocate last year.

Good point, but Miles should have out bid Texas/MB for Muschamp in 2008.$$$$$$$$$$ talks. I'd say Muschamp goes to Clemson or Tennessee. Emmert's got Saban locked up in Washington and he'll open the 2009 season against LSU........

I knew something was up last year when Mils dragged his feet for so long before naming his BBQ buddies as co-DCs. There was never any real attempt to hire outside of the current staff. The only name I ever heard mentioned was Tenuta's. Will Muschamp was never a serious candidate because Texas was courting him, so I doubt LSU ever offered him. If, and notice I said if, this whole deal blows up in Miles' face, then something needs to be done by the AD and BOS....even if they have to force him to make changes. LSU football has come too far to allow nepotism to drag it back to mediocrity.
