Their final drive of regulation was a clusterfrick too.
Wish I could be a fly on the wall in their locker room right now.

And they end up kicking on a 4th and 2. I’m struggling to think of a time I’ve seen that.
I think Dana was so mad over the final series he lost his mind.

Poor ole Dana looks like a child molesting cab driver

It’s the second time this year they’ve done that (same decision against UTSA, also ending in a loss).
It’s the epitome blindly following statistics without understanding even the most fundamental basics of statistical distributions.
Holgorsen’s reasoning is that the analytics say take the ball first in overtime because 56% of teams who took the ball first over the last 6 years won the game. That’s it. That was his entire argument when asked after week one. Slightly more than half of teams won when taking the ball first, so he says follow the analytics and take the ball first. Apparently not realizing that a sample from a random distribution need not be a perfect reflection of that distribution’s underlying properties.
It only takes the most elementary level of logic to see that taking the ball second is the wiser move… but some of these dumbass modern “analytics” guys blindly follow a strategic approach they clearly don’t even understand. For anyone who uses statistical analysis with any kind of frequency, it’s pitiful to observe.

You’re struggling to find an example of a team kicking a fg on OT on 4th down on first possession?

No. That they elect to take the ball first, and end up in the perfect demonstration for why you want to take the ball second.

Congrats, Tulane and Tulane Fan!
Wish we still played y'all.

What’s taking the ball second do?
Houston was confident they could score a td. They didn’t.
Posted on 9/30/22 at 10:23 pm to TackySweater
They have 4 downs to do it instead of 3
Posted on 9/30/22 at 10:27 pm to TackySweater
Taking the ball first is indefensible. You know what you need if you go second

You always have four downs to go get a score

you can't be this dense. obviously if you get the ball second you know whether a FG is an option on 4th and 2 or not. if the other team scores first you have to go.
Because they got the ball first, they took the "safer" 3 rather than just giving the ball to tulane with a chance to beat them wit a FG

Have you ever watched football or Overtime? You can't be serious.
