Well that invalidates your opinion on film ;)

Of movies I truly hate, Flowers in the Attic is up there. Just a vile film/book.

It’s hard to watch. I watched it as a kid, not sure how I was allowed to. The 80s were a different time for sure.

1) Her performance is quite unremarkable to say the least (think of what someone like Anne Bancroft could have done with the role) and 2) her part is quite small. But 1975 was an especially bad year for actresses, with little to choose from.

I don't think we watched the same movie.

He may have an interesting question. Was she a great actress or was it just a great character and she won because of the wave for the movie? Her IMDB after that is mostly complete crap and less than 20 years later she’s guest villain in a syndicated SciFi show

It was on regular TV. We all watched it as kids.

It had a mother trying to kill her kids with the help of her Mother (Fletcher) and it had brother/sister incest.

And I'm pretty sure a nude scene with Kristy Swanson...and this was on regular TV.

Why not both?

Possible but just odd to me that the rest of her career almost entirely garbage and supporting roles? Wouldn’t she get at least 1 lead in the years immediately after?

The little boy eating the cookies with rat poison.

The kids showing up as their mother was getting married and acting like she didn’t know them.

That’s tough to think about.

Yeah, you were like...wait...that's Nurse Ratched?

Kinda ruined the illusion.

But that's why she won the Oscar, acting.

Marlee Marlin is deaf so her career was always going to be limited.

Cotillard is French and continues to do movies over there where she is listed as the lead actress at least plus had a key role in The Dark Knight Rises a pretty big movie as well Midnight in Paris.

Halle Berry did anyone ever consider her a great actress or just smoking hot? Anyway after winning the Oscar she was cast as Bond girl and was given the lead in Catwoman which was a disaster but still she was given the lead.

A better comp may be Ellen Burstyn who won the year before Fletcher. She didn’t do anything for 3 years after winning but was the lead in a few movies in the late 70s and did have her own short lived tv show but still was the Ellen Burstyn show.

She’s still not well known in most markets and her Oscar-winning turn has been seen by few mainstream audiences. Most filmgoers couldn’t even tell you her name.

She had already filmed Die Another Day prior to winning the Oscar. And Louise Fletcher also got a few lead roles after One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest so I fail to see how that’s relevant.

Maybe just a guess is that’s because she’s freaking French and wasn’t in the #2 movie of the year

What movies was she the lead? Per IMDB her next movie was Exorcist 2 and she was 3rd billing and the next 3 she was at best #3
