I don’t get your point.
In the years between Stabler and Hurts/Tua, Alabama had none. It’s not like they have been cranking out nfl quality QBs.

And none of them have proven much of anything yet.

I disagree. It appears that way if you just look at the draft, but there's been a lot of completely shite QB's drafted first round due to one or more GM's falling in love with 'potential' while completely ignoring their career and current ability.

ETA: As said, in reality the USC qb's that have been drafted have done well. USC has had a shite ton of QB's since 2000 not work out to be anything either. In their heyday of recruiting the 2000s they had multiple 5*s on almost every one of those teams.

If that's true that's better than I thought.

You can just look at it. If anything, it's less giving guys like Cousins, for examample, a grade of good.

This doesn't make any sense.

I don't think Pete was ever really a starter much less ever an All-Pro..

Because they're all severely overhyped as Heisman candidates as soon as they sign their scholarship

It's woefully unproductive for 20 straight Heisman candidates

This is the right idea.

Realistically, only the top 10-15 QBs are what most people would consider “long term”. Everyone else is in the aforementioned “garbage” (not the term I’d use) category…and there’s a lot of churn in that group…so over, say, a 5 year span…it’s 10-15 “good” QBs and dozens of “garbage” QBs

Since USC has put so many QBs in the league in general, their performance is simply matching the league as a whole.

Has nothing to do with politics, and your examples are all old guys.

Most big schools have overrated QBs cause they are surrounded by better talent at the college level.

Great talent always makes coaches, quarterbacks, and running backs look better.

I used to coach high school ball. One year we had 20+ seniors and went 12-1 and won the state championship. The next year we lost all those seniors, lost our three best returning players for the season by the third quarter of the first game, and limped to 4-6 running all the same schemes.

We just didn’t have the horses we had the previous year.

I think that’s a large reason why mid tier school QBs tend to do better. They have to be better and make decisions quicker.

Probably more diamonds in the rough, too, at quarterback than maybe any other position because intangibles are so critical and that’s hard to quantify.

Sure. Like Mater Dei and Bosco aren't always at the top of the rankings for best high school football team in the country.

And Josh Allen, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Davante Adams, and I could go on and on, don't have a football mentality.

I think he means that teams often overdraft QBs and reach on their picks out of desperation.
Guys like EJ Manual or the 2011 draft when Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, and Christian Ponder were all early first round picks.

None of those guys should have been drafted that early, and the overwhelming consensus didn’t view any of them as franchise QBs.

Seems most NFL QBs aren't that good these days.

How many are actually really good? About 5?

what school is pumping out great QBs on a consistent basis?

I don’t know about great, but NC State has had a really good track record with QBs, considering the profile of the school.

Phillip Rivers
Russell Wilson
Jacoby Brisette
Mike Glennon (okay he sucks, but he’s a long stint I. The NFL)
Erik Kramer
Roman Gabriel

Seems like every 10 years or so, a solid QB comes through there.

Truth is, there is no school consistency pumping out great ones. It’s too random of a thing to happen.
