Bayou Bonfouca Bridge

Thinking of chasing some specks near Bayou Bonfouca and the Lake. I have never launched at Heritage Park, and I want to know if a bay boat can pass beneath the bridge on the way to Lake Pontchartrain.
Thanks
Thanks

with room to spare....paid launch further down Bayou Liberty Road on left hand side BEFORE the Bayou Liberty Bridge. Believe its $10.00. Gets you much closer to the lake and you won't spend 10 minute idling through the no wake zone!

Thanks Ranger, what is the name of the other launch?

There is a launch right over the bridge on your left, next to Nathan’s restaurant.

Google Bayou Liberty Marina.

Someone just got shot at the launch at Heritage Park yesterday, so maybe find a different one.

Shortest launch to the bridge would be the Pointe. $10 launch. 2 mins and you are in the lake.

I’ve launch my 22’ nautic star there multiple times. No issue going under that bridge. However, I dont have a t top.

Launch at Heritage Park is nice, wide, concrete. You can easily pass under the bridge over Bonfouca at Nathan's/Slidell marine. The launch at Slidell marine is NOT open to the public. The launch at Bayou Liberty is poo. No one has been maintaining it for the past 2 years and there is no good parking there. If you have a nice boat, I would not launch there. I did not hear about a shooting at Heritage Park. Need to find out if that is true. Good luck.

I drove to Heritage Park today and checked things out. It is a very nice launch especially for someone who goes alone much of the time. I also rode to the Bayou Liberty Marina which is an absolute dump. The Pointe (when there is a north wind) and Heritage Park will do fine. By the way, I do not have and do not want a T-top. Thanks for the input.

One thing to keep in mind, there’s not a ton of parking at Heritage Park. The Pointe has parking for days. The $10 is good for 24 hours. You get a ticket from a machine.

You are right dansr; I think there are only about ten parking places for boats at Heritage. The good news is that I am retired and can go during the week and avoid the crowds.

Why is that?

It always creeps me out when people talk about Bayou Bonfouca because many people don’t know it’s history as a SuperFund site. It wouldn’t bother me to boat/fish there but I wouldn’t eat any fish from close to the SuperFund site.

Kengel, I look at those T-tops as potential lightning rods.

Thanks for the info BobaBooey. I looked it up. The pollution came from a creosote plant. The plant was closed in the 1970's, and the soil in the bayou was dredged as part of the cleanup. The Bayou was declared safe by the EPA about thirty years ago. Groundwater is still being pumped up through pipes and cleaned. I feel safe.
