Left out last Sunday night headed SE from Destin for a 72 hr trip. Started fishing around 7:30 Monday morning and the fishing was constant until we quit around 7:30 Wednesday morning. 3rd fish we caught Monday morning was the 67 lb Wahoo on the board, it was caught on a Penn 4/0 with mono leader while AJ fishing, I would not believe it hadI not seen it myself. We caught Snowy, Gag and Scamp grouper. AJ's and some of the biggest Almaco jacks I've ever seen (30ish lbs) Barrelfish, Beeliners, Blackfin tuna triggers, ARS (that were thrown back) and a few Porgy's. We started fishing in 280 Ft and worked out way out to about 550 before deep dropping starting 800ish to 1100ish. Our first time fishing this boat and Capt. and they exceeded all expectations. I've been fishing the Gulf my whole life and Chartering for more than 25 years so we've seen all kinds when it comes to boats and crews, would highly recommend this Capt and crew.

What’s a trip like that cost per person?

Site says $9900 up to 7 passengers plus 4% convenience fee paying with a credit card, plus tip.

Although pricey, it isn't awful if that's your bag and you get that kind of result.

We had 7 anglers, you can take 8 if you want. I collect boat money, tip and food money from everyone up front. It was $1750 a man. It costs us $1300-$1400 a trip for 2 days out of Venice these days so we decided to do something different and it worked out. It's been 5 years or so since we had any kind of meat haul like this on a trip. Years ago we did a 72 hr trip once a year but the older I get the harder they get so we quit and started doing day trips back to back days. I shouldn't complain, that's my Pop on the front right, he is 72 yeras old and fished his arse off the whole trip, and they let him fight a huge shark for an hour cuz they wanted to "take care of it" Lol

ETA: The Barrelfish very well may be the best fish I've ever tasted in my life.

not sure any one grocery store stocks enough beer. Miller Lite truck may have to meet me at the dock if I were to make that trip.

Even for 7 people that just looks like way too many fish to be harvesting.

I’ll never understand this. They should just add their desired tip to the total cost and be done with it

Agree, Barrel fish is maybe one of the best eating fish in the gulf. Similar to grouper, but better in my opinion. They yield a lot of meat.

It's 7 people over 72 hours.

Broken down... That's 7 people on six different 12 hour trips.

It's actually not a lot of fish when you break it down.

No. But taste, texture and habitat are very similar.

Tile fish taste better IMO but barrel fish are still pretty good.

That’s a solid meat haul though

I forgot to list that we had a few tiles as well. 2 golden and a blue line. The snowy bite was insane. Biggest was pushing 40 lbs. Accommodations were as expected for a boat. One toilet worked fine, enough bunks for 5 and 2 of us slept in the salon on cushioned benches. Not too much sleep to be had though, it was rough as shite all the way out and we swordfished at night. We did release one sword that his bill was longer than his body. Total meat yield was maybe 60 lbs of clean meat each. It doesn't go as far a you think split 7 ways, plus capt and seckhands wanted a bag of grouper. All in all it was an epic trip

Hell yeah. I’m on a mission to kill some yellowedge and snowys right now. Been a while since I’ve gotten into them.
