Will never be matched in sports history. The three greatest athletes of all time. And it’s not even remotely close. All three absolutely dominated for decades and did it against each other. There will never be anything like it again. Who would’ve thought Sampras would have been left in the dust by THREE players. Tennis fans, cheers to y’all. It’s been a roller coaster of the past few weeks.

Sort of, it’s been an emotional day. Federer has retired. I’m soaking it all in. I gotta vent somewhere

Just recognize his greatness please. These three guys are the greatest to ever do it. No other sport has had three of their best player ever in the same era and compete dozens of grand slams against each other. You just can’t make this stuff up.

frick off. This is your third federer thread today. Being this much of a bitch isn't doing any favors towards how you seem to desperately want people around here to perceive tennis

You are a pussy. Just because you know nothing about it doesn’t mean you should act like a Karen. This is a historic day and this is a sports board, including tennis. Recognize his greatness, bitch.

Yeah, early '80's to late '80's was great. I loved Agassi, but Sampras took over the sport in the '90's and you really only had a few other guys like Courier and Chang mixed in. It was fun for the U.S., though.

It will be interesting to see if 20 majors becomes a trend or was just a one-off from three freakshows. When Pete hit 14, I would have bet that would last 50 years.

It would take a true genetic freak, like a 7 footer with an Isner serve who moves like the Big 3. You would think the court homogeneity would make it easier, but it makes the sport too much of a grind for normal humans.

As young as he is, I can't see Alcaraz doing what he does for more than five years or so. Definitely not 10 or 15, but that's what I thought about Nadal.

No love for Wilander?

I grew up watching that era - played tennis as much as 5x/week and watched all the big tournaments (and many of the smaller ones), subscribed to the magazines, etc. Lendl was a machine - my all time favorite.

I just couldn’t get into the current era. To me it didn’t seem like the 3 “greatest ever” reigned together - it seemed more like the sport had declined and there were only 3 guys worth a shite. Kind of like the Larry Holmes era of boxing - but if there were 3 of him and he kept beating up himself.

If Sampras’s coach doesn’t die unexpectedly, which tore him up and took away his drive, he’s easily at 20 majors.

Fed is a great player that had significant luck to play in an era with absolutely no depth of top talent and got 70% of his titles before Nadal and Djoker hit their strides.

The overall talent in the 80s and 90s was so much better than during Feds hay day. It’s improving now, but was utter shite for nearly a decade.

Been watching / playing tennis 30 years plus. Here’s my opinions:

Best player : Federer
Best era:Agassi Sampras etc
Funnest to watch : McEnroe
Biggest a-hole : Connors
Most personable : Agassi
Most disappointing career : Roddick
Best career ; Djokovic to be
Best return: Joker
Best serve: Sampras
Best net player : McEnroe.
