quote:

What does the future of Christianity look like in America? It will be quite different if any of the latest projections from the Pew Research Center come to fruition. Pew found a stunning decrease in Christianity and a notable rise in the “nones” (atheists, agnostics, or those who embrace “nothing in particular”). Recent trends of people leaving faith behind helped guide Pew toward potential scenarios about what the religious landscape in America could look like in 2070. These possible outcomes are at the heart of the recently released Pew report, As we explore the findings, let’s first start with current religious demographics. In 2007, 78% of Americans called themselves Christians, but that proportion was down to 70% in 2014, and stood around 64% in 2020, with a growth in the so-called “nones” expanding during this same timeframe. According to Pew’s potential projections, Christianity as a percentage of the population could significantly dwindle even further over the next 50 years. Depending on whether religious switching continues at recent rates, speeds up, or stops entirely, the Center’s projections show Christians of all ages shrinking from 64% to between a little more than half (54%) and just above one-third of all Americans (35%) by 2070,”

quote:

First, Christians will shrink as a proportion of the population under every model. And, as Pew noted, “at the same time, the religiously unaffiliated are projected to grow under all four scenarios.” From a theological perspective, this has monumental consequences for individuals and the Gospel’s salvation message. But from a societal and political standing, there’s also much to consider. How will society change as a result of these new compositions? Will religious liberty still stand if people are fleeing organized faith systems? These are just two of the questions that emerge. It’s hard to deny culture will dramatically shift and change with fewer Christians among the populace. The decline of Christianity and the rise of the ‘nones’ may have complex causes and far-reaching consequences for politics, family life, and civil society,” Pew noted.

quote:

Dr. Bill White, pastor of Christ Journey Church in Miami, Florida, and author of the book “Mature-ish: Your Mission From God, Should You Choose to Accept It,” told Faithwire a recent survey he commissioned found 88% of Christians haven’t advanced past the “toddler stage” of spiritual development. Plus, a survey released earlier this year by researcher and pollster George Barna of the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found just 37% of U.S.-based pastors hold to a biblical worldview. Another survey from Barna found just 2% of parents of preteens today hold a biblical worldview. 39% of ‘evangelical’ pastors they asked said there is no absolute moral truth [and] that ‘each individual must determine their own truth.’”

There is no coincidences that the falling away from the faith by many Americans is leading to a more troubled and self serving society.

I don't know about that. Aren't the people coming across the border more like to be Catholics? When people fall on hard times they tend to turn to the Lord and what I am seeing with this economy is that hard times are a coming.

I think that was one of the goals of the Covid shutdowns. Decrease church attendance and routines.

It means the end of the US

Our constitution was written for a religious and moral people. It is wholly unsuitable for any other- John Adams

The faith based organizations need to take a look in the mirror and figure out why they are losing people. They are leaving for a reason.

The immediate impact is certainly troubling for our society and for the salvation of souls.

However, this is far from the first time that secularism (paganism/Gnosticism) has thrived and the church has retreated. The silver lining is that people will no longer be able to take faith matters for granted. Being faithful to God and his commandments and following in the path of Jesus will be a conscious choice.

The Bible certainly doesn’t shy from this topic. You Will Be persecuted for your faith, unto death in some circumstances.

I will walk with Jesus. I will carry my cross. I will humbly try to remain faithful and will ask forgiveness for my failings. EVEN if I am the last Christian on the face of the earth.

I will seek His guidance in how to evangelize to a secular world. I can no longer take for granted the presumed position of a Judeo-Christian world view in those around me.

Jesus asked his disciples, “And will you also abandon me?”

And they replied, “Lord, to whom shall we turn? For you alone have the words of eternal life!”

God is either in control or God is not. Which is it?

So, God won't come in unless God is invited, correct?

If so, how many of us have to invite God in? 10%? 25%? 50%? 75 or 80%? 100%?

If God can just do what God wants then why doesn't God change reality?

If thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

Christianity has to not only be the center of America but also the center of our government. Nobody should be making policies or laws without keeping God in mind.

Even if one is averse to organized religion or more specifically Christianity, still look at the 10 Commandments and the teachings of Christ, and tell me how it's a bad set of principles to follow?

I'm shocked that CBN would fear monger to try to keep the cash flowing.

Shocked.

Unless a revival occurs by the power of God, I see true Christianity continuing to shrink and the nominal Christians to stop being nominal at an increasing rate.

It seems a large portion of Christian churches simply don't teach the scriptures any longer, catechizing and discipling the flock of Christ. Instead, it's mostly about entertainment, sentimentality, and fraternization while scratching the itch that most people have to be religious.

I expect numbers to decrease, God's common grace that restrains evil to decrease, and greater instability in the culture to increase, with more and more government intervention being used to subdue those who were subdued by the influence of the Church previously.

I also expect the hole of religion filled by Christianity to be filled with other things, like worship of other gods, demon worship, or just the religion of the self.

It's not going to end well for our culture if the Lord allows this to continue, but Christians need to be vigilant in holding their leaders responsible for their shepherding of the flock of Christ, and the gospel needs to be proclaimed all the more.

Once a minority christians will be a major target of violence and discrimination. At that point if you are christian you are probably better off living in Mexico.

Define "religious faith." Those who claim to be non-religious (or even atheist) are actually very religious. They just worship at different altars.

I know the SBC has had some notable problems of late and as far as Methodism, of which I be one, we are splintering and the only place Methodism is growing is through our missionary work in Africa. I believe I'm correct in that Europe is being over run by Muslims and most protestant denominations are in decline. I won't be here in 50 years but I pray to God that my granddaughter will be but I worry for her for so many different things from politics, money, religion, civility, college indoctrination, on and on.

It's largely a product of millennials being raised in pop-culture rock concert type churches that didn't really sink anything deep.

Even now church is merely a tool to meet and connect with people or find a spouse. The theological side is kind of secondary to the social yearning of the people in attendance.

It’s just how humans and our world evolves. The world is getting smarter. Technology, math, and science, have completely changed what we thought we once knew. It’s hard for people to believe in something that can’t be proved, in a time where we can prove so much. Humans have became God.

Religion was nothing more than a theory as to what happens to us when we die, because at the peak times of religion, people didn’t know any better, and had nothing else to go off of. Everything was theories. The minute the United States was created, religion was destined to be destroyed.
