Call someone with the proper tools and experience to mess with that spring.

this, if I were local I'd fix that for you for a cold beer, that one is a pretty quick fix but don't mess with that spring Judge

We just used Door Tech to replace our garage door. No complaints and they were considerably less than Precision.

Much appreciated. Help is incoming tomorrow am. I suspect it’ll cost me more than a beer.

yeah, they'll likely gouge you a bit but it will be money well spent, if it's a decent company they'll give the entire door a "tune up" as part of the service call fee

Simple fix but don’t take a chance. Probably cost around $85 for a service charge. Shouldn’t take them more than 30 minutes but will charge for an hour. Make sure they service the door before leaving. Spray white lithium on the T-spring and hinges.

I used Chad’s to replace a broken spring and an old spring. Quick and professional.

It will take longer to get a ladder and some tools out and then put them up...... than it will take to fix the cable.

I did a repair job where the same thing had happened. But the home owner decided to cut the cable. This meant I had to make a new cable and then install it. I guess the new cable was not "exactly" the same length, so I had to adjust the spring tension to make the door open and close properly. Or, maybe the tension was not balance when install, and this is why the cable came loose.

Not as easy as you think if you have never done it before. I tried numerous times to replace both cables on a double door making sure to wind the cables the exact amount based on the height of the door and couldn’t get it right. I finally caved and hired a pro. He pointed out that a tiny piece near the notch of the pulley had broken off and that was what caused the cable to keep popping out.
