Had a bad grease fire on my last use. Started up the Traeger today (Ironwood 885) and noticed the paint starting to bubble/peel on the back of the barrel right at the crease. How screwed am I?

Scrape it clean and hit it with some heat resistant spray. They make paints foe grills I believe. It's prevent rust.

People are going to shite on you for owning a Traeger. Just tell them to go frick themselves.

Aside from this issue, would you recommend? I am very close to getting that exact model.

Biggest Issue I have is the pellets getting like saw dust in Louisiana Humidity. I have to clean it up every couple of months or it is full of ash and temperature doesn't rise.

This might be just me. I use the Traegar pellets and not generic brand

I absolutely love it! It was a rare issue that was self inflicted because of poor housekeeping on my part. The grease caught on fire which isn’t normal. It’s so easy to set it up and everything I have done has come out perfect

This is all you need to do OP. Scrape it as far back as you need. Get the grill out of the humidity to apply the paint and dry. Shop/garage/ somewhere

I've started pouring my pellets in a home depot bucket with a lid. When you pour from the bag into the bucket, most of the dust escapes into the air. Keeps the pellets fresher too.

I’m curious how you even got the grease fire. I’ve never had that happen to me on mine. I don’t have the same type as you though so perhaps yours is capable of getting hotter.

I can tell you how I got one. Smoked a bunch of wings. I mean a bunch of them. 99% or more of the rendered chicken fat went down the tray and into the external drip bucket. However, I pulled all the wings off the smoker, turned it up to 450 degrees, and was going to sear them off in smaller bitches to crisp that skin up. At 450 degrees, I’m guessing the fat that dripped down into the barrel and not on the drip tray ignited. I own a Rectec, Camp Chef, and a ZGrill. All three of them have about 1/2” to 3/4” all the way around the drip pan that if you aren’t careful the fat can drip down into the bottom of the grill. If grease gets down there and you get that grill hot enough watch out. Having said all this, I clean my pellet grills regularly and have never seen grease down there where the ashes are when I vacuum them out. It’s hard to do but it I learned the hard way it can be done.

Ahhh yeah if it makes it the bottom then that’ll do it. That makes sense now
