Do not do it! we thought it'd be fun to take the train from Colorado to Chicago then to NOLA several years ago when our kids were little. Train getting to Denver was 17 hours LATE, they never told us the truth, continued to lie to us telling it was nearing arrival. We had to sleep in the Denver train station, no available hotel close by. By the time we finally got on the train, all the food they had left was canned soup and cereal, we finally got to Chicago but missed our scheduled train to NOLA and said fak it, bought plane tix home from O'hare...never again.

frick. One of my dream trips has always been the train from Chicago to San Francisco. You're saying it's a shitshow? Damn it. Anyone else done this trip?
