I’m as hopeful about DeSantis as anyone, but if all these swamp fricks suddenly slobbering all over him doesn’t cause you to pause for at least a second to ponder what exactly might be going on here, I don’t know what to say.

Some will never see it.

Big globalist money doesn't give a red rat's arse what the governor of Florida does. They don't care about his covid battles or his tiff with Disney.
But put that man in DC, and they care very much. That care comes with a significant dollar sign and DeSantis' entire career has been in politics. If you think he's some guaranteed MAGA ally, I suspect you're setting yourself up for disappointment. We've seen this same routine play out many, many times.

Barr's a fool if he thinks he can sneak into a DeSantis admin with his track record. Benedict Arnold's are never trusted again. Won't stop him from trying.

It's because they want to win, and DeSantis is the most electable candidate we can run in 2024. Over 5 million people in both 2016 and 2020 voted for at least 1 down-ballot Republican but didn't vote for Trump. These 5 million people aren't natural allies of the Democratic coalition. They're Republicans and registered Independents (who historically vote R) that HATE Trump and will never vote for him. Most of these people are in the suburbs. They will, however, vote for literally any other person with a "R" next to their name. They voted for down-ballot Republicans they couldn't even pick out of a lineup.
Liberals know this, which is why MSNBC and the Lincoln Project want Trump to run again. They know he has limitations electorally - especially with these voters and suburban women - which is not the case for DeSantis, and they want Trump to take out more electable candidates in the GOP primary. The Lincoln Project sent out a tweet trying to egg on Trump to run again in the summer of 2021 after a poll found DeSantis ahead.
