What you do not understand about college cost

So this is in 2015 dollars. Why do you think those cost for college were so much cheaper in the 70s, 80s, and 90s? Why are they so expensive today? What has changed?
#HINT: has nothing to do with worthless degrees and lazy young people.

Government subsidies.
Subsidizing will raise cost. Colleges took advantage of the opportunity and created a shite load of bloat.

I don’t understand why colleges charge so much tuition to lazy young people for a worthless degree

Nope, the data does not support your conclusion. Subsidizing reduces cost to the student, not increase it.

Your graph has nothing to do with people taking out loans they can’t pay back

As a percentage...

My graphs are showing why the loans are so high, not trying to pass a judgement on the value of college.
Ask Mike Rowe if our society values people without college degree versus with college degrees. If you push people into college because of societal values, then society has a responsibility to support those individuals.

The issue is they government decided to give students loans instead Of colleges money.
They went from paying for universities to pushing that onto students.

They do because they can.

I suspect the second graph is highly manipulated to give the appearance of perfect symmetry which is appealing to the smooth brains
No the graph is not manipulated. It is just a visual demonstration of a direct correlation between appropriations and tuition cost based on available data.

We have a winner!

Same reason 7 year car loans cause vehicle prices to go up. Same as 3 percent interest rates cause home prices to go up.
No risk unlimited loans, backed by FedGov, cause tuition prices to go up, because no one is concerned about the price. That's a problem for another day.

I wonder what's going to happen when they push that on taxpayers.

It is more of the chicken vs the egg, imo.
Did easy loans of any amount allow universities to increase fees? I think that is at least a large part of the equation.
If loans were capped, we would not have seen these huge increases in tuition. Instead, universities know students will just borrow and there is no consequence for the school if they never repay it.
I have been on about 80% of SEC campuses in the past 6 years. The amount of new construction and the hundreds of millions being spent by universities is greatly increasing their operating costs. It is unnecessary.
If we want to reign in costs, we start by capping how much the student can borrow. Universities would be forced to make changes to decrease expenses.

Most of it boils down to worthless tenured professors being paid ridiculous salaries.

Well that's just a bunch of horse shite. No one is being pushed into going to college. In fact, there are many hard working Americans in this country who never attended college, but have a higher income than those who did. Ask Mike Rowe about that. People CHOOSE to go to college and people CHOOSE to take out loans, that they've agreed to pay back, in order to do so. Many of those people made unwise choices. Why should the rest of us have to pay for their mistakes?

Buddy, it always been on the back of tax payers. This is what people do not get. That is the point of land-grant public universities. Public universities were founded by the American public to provide low cost education for the betterment of society. Public education SHOULD be funded by tax payers, that is the point!

People get it, sport.
That doesn't mean we should pile on more.

There is nothing of value attending an over priced private university unless you are becoming a doctor or engineer otherwise you can get the same degree at a much lower cost at a Junior College then an instate university. The problem is many students make poor decisions because they want to experience college life in a dorm at a school they can’t afford and rack up huge debts. There is a huge difference between supporting students and paying for bad choices.
