Anyone ever done this?

It’s the only actual lodging available in the whole park. It requires a 5-8 mile uphill hike to get to (depending on the route you take). It’s supplied by llamas. As far as I know, the only way to reserve is via this weird confusing “lottery” system that requires an email request sent on October 1 of each year whereby it’s hard to understand how exactly you would be assigned a date.

Nevertheless, I’ve tried the past two years, but to no avail.

Has anyone done it? Any pointers? Any “work arounds” or secondary “markets” on reservations? The Google machine seems to be a black hole on this.

I have never been all the way up there but I have hiked a good part of that trail a few times. It is a nice hike.

There is a deal where people will cancel their reservations the day before, and those spots become available. I believe those spots are made public via their website. But unless you’re fairly close, it’s not convenient.

Are you wanting to stay in Mt Leconte specifically (to be in GSMNP, see the views from that elevation) or are you more interested in the "hike to get to the lodge" experience?

If the latter, look into the Len Foote Hike Inn outside of Dawsonville, GA. Same setup (5 mile or so hike to/from) with a trailhead at Amicalola Falls and the AT approach trail.

I was trying to be able to actually stay at the lodge, understanding the hike up being part of it.

The Len Foote Hike Inn looks very cool! Think I may try to book a weekend in the spring. I do like having wine with dinner on vacation, but I guess I could get over that.
