In terms of pregame buildup, storylines leading up to the game, stadium atmosphere, etc.

There's nothing like Louisiana high school playoff football. Standing room only, fences lined, both teams and student sections giving it their all. Which games have provided the most hype and atmosphere? The game doesn't necessarily need to have lived up to the hype.

2010 Semifinal: Acadiana at St. Thomas More
This was probably the biggest game in the history of Lafayette Parish prep football. Acadiana had gone 9-1 during the regular season (their one loss coming to STM), but were stripped of 4 of their victories due to playing an ineligible backup transfer from Texas. They entered the playoffs as the #27 seed as a result. As for STM, they were ranked #2, going 10-0 and having the best team in school history. Over 9000 tickets were sold. There were even talks of having the game moved to Cajun Field so more people could see it. They had to bring in extra bleachers just to fit everyone. This video showcases just how bonkers the atmosphere was. The game did not live up to the hype as a revenge-minded Acadiana shut out STM 31-0.

2021 Semifinal: Acadiana at Ponchatoula
Acadiana was the 2-time defending state champion under newly christened head coach Matt McCullough. Ponchatoula, after being struck hard by Hurricane Ida, had rallied around arguably the best team in school history, who went 8-0 in the regular season and were loaded with future NCAA D-I players including 5-star safety Jacoby Mathews. The two schools had played each other 3 times in the playoffs, with Acadiana winning all 3 including the 2014 matchup where Acadiana knocked out the other Ponchatoula team in consideration for being the best in school history. Ponchatoula had not won a title since 1940 and was seeking their first trip to the state title game since 1951. Legendary coach Hank Tierney was also sitting at 299 wins and one more would put him at 300. Needless to say, the atmosphere was electric. This game actually lived up to the hype, with Ponchatoula rallying from a 29-14 deficit to win 43-36. High school football guru Jim Derry called it one of the top 10 greatest games he had ever seen, and his commentary of the game certainly backs up that point.

I think it was called the Hap Glaudi Classic in the Superdome week one or two of the season in 1999 or 2000 featured Shaw vs Evangel and Curtis vs West Monroe in their primes. It’s the first games I remember being mentioned nationally.
